Joey T\'s DHPF of the Month
September 2016
We are proud to announce, Matt Hawpetoss fromPulaski, WI
Name: Matt Hawpetoss
Currently resides in: Pulaski, WI
Q: What city/state were you born and raised?
A: I was born in Antigo, WI but raised in Rhinelander, WI
Q: What is your earliest memory of being a DHPF?
A: When my bud from Gardner Mass, Joey “Packman” Pineau was named DHPF of the month, Feb 2015. Man I was so happy for him. Great guy!
Q: How long have you been following the Packers?
A: Well my uncles and aunts watched the Packers all the time so I became hooked. It was sometime around the mid 80’s. I knew being a Packers fan was inside of me and I it wasn’t going to go away. Once you become a fan it’s for life.
Q: Your family\’s heritage is from the Menominee Indian tribe. What Native American traditions do you still practice?
A: If there is a spiritual need for the house, I do smudging and for the change of seasons.
We welcome in the new air. It’s about giving thanks for the new and saying so long to the old. It’s a way of saying thanks to the animals waking up or going away for a spell.
Q: Have you ever lived on the reservation?
A: Never lived on the reservation but I was a surveyor from 1994-2001.
Q: Tell us about your grandfather who wore the red shirt? Is that a special shirt in your family?
A: It was actually my Uncle Louie with the Ribbon Shirt and it was one of many that my grandmother made for him. He was a judge so she made a different pattern to fit perfect under his robe.
Q: Was your grandfather the only Native American on a professional baseball team?
A: That I know of!!!! It wasn’t a pro team but the league they played in was fairly elite. It was regionally located in Central WI.
Q: How did you become friends with all the tailgaters in Lot 1?
A: I met Scott Schwartz at a local watering hole after moving to Pulaski WI about 8 yrs ago. It’s been Go Pack Go ever since. It’s the best tailgating that I’ve ever experienced at a Packer game. Not to mention all the other friends that either stop at Lot 1 to help or hang out. There is nothing better than fans from the opposing team stop by and enjoy a beverage. They are always welcomed and never leave without a smile.
Q: How many Packer games do you attend a year? Do you ever make it to any road games?
A: I missed one game in 2015 including preseason. I usually attend four games a year or more. I have yet to go to an away game. It’s definitely on my bucket list.
Q: Who is your all-time favorite player? Who is your favorite player now? Why?
A: It’s a 100 way tie to Joey T, LOL!!! If I had to pick one, it would have to be Brett Favre. Field generals and team captains are always put on a pedestal for a reason. The guy depicted a Hollywood script! He created a legacy that only his fellow teammates could wish for and fans could dream of. Pretty crazy individual to say the least. Like he said… His play and what he did for the organization speaks for itself.
Q: Do you have any game day rituals/superstitions?
A: I do not have any rituals outside of wearing Green and Gold on game day. I always make sure to do a couple shotskis with my people at Lot 1. That’s about as much of a ritual as you can get.
Q: Any last words you\’d like to say to the Packer Nation?
A: It has been an honor being a part of the best fan base in the entire NFL. The most welcoming set of comrades I can think of. There may be others but there is none like ours!!!
Go Pack Go and CheeseHead Mafia For Life!!
