Memorable Run and Nelson Made Us Smile In 2016
Well, it’s Super Bowl Sunday and in the words of George Carlin; “It’s like a Big Ol’ Club and you ain’t in it!”
Hopefully all the dedicated fans have accepted it, let go, and moved on. I definitely have! Many will disagree, but I recommend writing this year off as a great run by Aaron & Company. Especially with the sheer number of walking wounded and the sub-par defense.
Who would ever forget January 8th, 2017, with those frigid temperatures at Lambeau Field when we defeated the New York Giants. I won’t, because I was there freezing my ass off! Let us not forget, numerous announcers in the media had us losing that game.
Then there was the NFL Divisional Round and the ultimate victory; beating Dallas, the #1 seed inside Jerry’s World. I mean, come on…..that was pretty cool! (The Packers have still never lost inside that building.) Trust me Packer fans, to this day there are plenty of pissed off Dallas fans and there may be for years to come. Remember, with injury and parity so prevalent in the NFL today, there are no guarantees. Every team is different from year to year.
On to Atlanta…
Let’s get right to the point. If Sam Shields never gets a concussion and plays all year, including the NFC Championship game, the Packers never trade Casey Hayward and Tramon Williams is in the mix; do you think the Packers beat Atlanta? Hard to say.
For those of us that grew up with Reggie White and then (another FA pickup) Sean Jones, bringing the heat over and over again was a thing of beauty. There is something uniquely special about knowing the defense can pressure the quarterback, bringing the heat on each and every down. To me, that’s the missing ingredient all year in Green Bay.
Wouldn’t it be great to see JJ Watt end his career in green and gold? That Waukesha Wisconsin boy never ever looked quite right in a Texan uniform. Oh well, we can only dream. Hopefully the Packers personnel (in the words of Aaron Rodgers), can “reload” in the next couple of months; not only bringing back the Lombardi trophy, but the glory the fan-base so desperately deserves.
For those of you out there hoping both teams will lose today, I’m with you. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. I don’t know about you, but I’m a NFC kind of guy. I have always felt the NFC was more competitive than the AFC. It’s plain and simple: I’m cheering for Atlanta. In my opinion, they are the better team. Like millions of other fans out there, I’m tired of Tom Brady. He likes footballs with less air in them, so he’s out.
On a final note, how about Jordy Nelson winning the CPOY award last night at the NFL Honors. Just a hard working simple guy who grew up on the farm, who continues to warm our hearts each and every year.
Good luck and may the best team win! Go Pack!
