Joey T\'s DHPF of the Month
November 2016
We are proud to announce, Bill Stamm from East Troy, WI
Name: Bill Stamm
Currently resides in: East Troy, WI
Q: What city/state were you born and raised?
A: East Troy, WI
Q: What is your earliest memory of being a DHPF?
A: Ever since I was 5 or 6 years old watching Lynn Dickey & James Lofton with my older brother Tom. I didn’t realize it at that time but I was hooked for life!
Q: When did you come up with your persona and how did the development of that come about?
A: I enjoy history and have always loved the Green Bay Packers. After watching the Vince Lombardi HBO special, I was very intrigued with the Coach. I started watching other documentaries about him, while studying the way he talked and handled himself. I told my wife that I wanted to dress up like Vince at the next Packer game we attended. She helped me find the coat and the hat that belonged to my grandpa. The teeth were specially made to fit my mouth.
Q: Did someone tell you looked like Vince Lombardi and that\’s why you dress up like him?
A: No, but we are both of Italian descent so I thought I could pull it off.
Q: Tell us about the teeth Bill. What are they made out of? Are they uncomfortable to wear?
A: I had the teeth specially made to fit my mouth. It had to be precise measurements. They are made out of plastic and fit perfect. Although, if I wear them all day at a Packer game they tend to be uncomfortable after awhile.
Q: Have you gotten some negative feedback dressing like Coach Lombardi?
A: Yes. I have received some negative feedback. This was always my biggest fear, but most people realize that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It\’s important to me that people realize I am not trying to be disrespectful, I just love Vince Lombardi and what he meant to the organization.
Q: Do you get bombarded to take photos when you are at Lambeau?
A: Yes! Sometimes a 10 minute walk can take an hour. I don\’t mind, it\’s awesome!
Q: Have you been asked to attend any Packer Functions as The Coach?
A: No, I haven\’t, but I definitely would if someone were to ask!
Q: How have the guys that played for Coach Lombardi reacted to you?
A: Jerry Kramer & Fuzzy Thurston loved it! A couple of years ago before Fuzzy passed, Jerry said he would put me on Fuzzy\’s shoulders and carry me off the field. We were never able to do it but it was great just to hear him say it.
Q: Finish this sentence. Green Bay Packer’s Football is
A: more than a game, it\’s way of life. Like many others, I proposed to my wife on Lambeau Field. We take most of our vacations up to Green Bay. We enjoy the sport as a family. It will be in our hearts forever.
Q: How did you become such a serious Packer fan?
A: Watching football with my dad and two older brothers in the early 1980s. It was tough, but my brother Tom explained to me, we were Packer fans no matter what. I grew up on a farm and there were always chores to do. The only time my dad would give us a break was to watch the Packer games. It’s safe to say, I was raised in a Die Hard family.
Q: How many Packer games do you attend a year?
A: Approximately 5 games a year. I would attend more if I could but we all have responsibilities.
Q: Who is your all-time favorite player? Who is your favorite player now? Why?
A: I can\’t choose a favorite player, there are too many. But I could definitely pick a favorite team. The 1989 Packers when the offense was led by Don Majkowski and the defense by Tim Harris. Don Majkowski led the league in passing. My favorite play of all time came from the \’89 Packers when Don Majkowski stepped close to the line of scrimmage and completed a touchdown pass to Sterling Sharpe. It happened in the final moments and after further review \”The Bears Still Suck\”.
Q: Do you have any game day rituals/superstitions?
A: No, but we have a tradition of watching away games with our friends at our home. Our home is also know as \”Stammbeau Field\”.
Q: Any last words you\’d like to say to the Packer Nation?
A: Remember, there are many who never get a chance to attend Lambeau field. So if one day your are blessed to make it to to a home game, enjoy every moment and take it all in. It’s something you will cherish for the rest of your life.
