Playoff time is here as the Packers face the Eagles on the road
The Packers face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road this Sunday at 3:30pm Central Time on the road in the Super Wild-Card Weekend.
The Packers finished 11-6 while the Eagles finished 14-3. The Packers and Eagles met in Week 1 in Brazil, a 34-29 win by the Eagles in which Jordan Love got hurt late in the game and missed the next 2 contests, but the Packers won them both behind Malik Willis at QB.
For the Eagles, Jalen Hurts is coming off a concussion, but he is expected to play. They have no shortage of weapons with Saquon Barkley, the 2K rushing back. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith along with Dallas Goedert make up quite a receiving corps. That offensive group along with the ability of Hurts to run the football make this offense very difficult to guard. That is why they only lost 3 total games. The Packers will have to stay focused and disciplined. Any wrong moves and they might find themselves on the wrong side of the football. Let’s get sacks and turnovers. The more we get, the better chance we have of winning.
Love is expected to play as he received quite a scare in their finale during the regular season, but probably could’ve returned to play had it been important to their playoff chances. Josh Jacobs will be looking forward to his opportunity in the playoffs as well as their receiving corps who sadly will be without Christian Watson. They will have to make do with who they have. It should be enough if they protect their QB and the receivers get open and make plays. They need to protect the football and make the most of their opportunities. They need to score touchdowns on offense. Field goals will not get it done.
Special teams are very important in a game of this magnitude. They cannot allow the punt coverage team to lose sight of the football like they did against the Bears last Sunday. At least their kicking game is reliable. Brandon McManus has delivered some clutch kicks since the Packers acquired him. He just might be called upon to deliver another big field goal.
The Packers and Eagles will be meeting in their 4th postseason game, all in Philly. The Packers famously lost their only playoff game under Vince Lombardi. They also lost on a long completion when Brett Favre was the QB. I don’t need to get into specifics. The bright spot was when they won when Tramon Williams intercepted a pass from Michael Vick in the endzone, a pass intended for Riley Cooper. The Packers would go on from there all the way to Super Bowl XLV and the victory. Will we get that same result this time? Let’s win this game and we’ll see what happens.
It’s the playoffs now and we have to win. The Packers were the #7 seed last year and they responded by dominating the Cowboys on their own field. I would be surprised if we have that kind of domination this year, but a win, even by a single point, is all that matters. If you are fortunate enough to be going to the game, be careful as some (but not all of course) of the fans can be quite brutal. Don’t be unfortunate enough to have Wisconsin license plates as you could have your wiper blades ripped off among other things. Be safe out there but let’s cheer our team to victory this weekend.
