Revenge-minded Packers take on desperate 49ers at Lambeau
The Packers get ready for a matchup I’m sure many players had circled on their calendar for months as they host the 49ers in the late afternoon game.
The Packers are 7-3 after that huge win at Soldier Field last Sunday while the 49ers are 5-5 after losing 20-17 at home to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
For the 49ers, Brock Purdy is out and Brandon Allen will get the start. Nothing can be taken for granted in this game. The Packers need to come out firing on defense. They haven’t forced too many turnovers lately. They need to get back to taking the ball away and shutting the opposition down.
Jordan Love has been thinking about that playoff loss for a long time whether he admits it or not. SF is on the brink of missing the playoffs. They can’t afford too many more losses. The Packers need to come out on fire and score early and often. Nick Bosa is out for this game. That is a huge loss for them. A turnover-free game would go a long way in getting a victory.
We can’t ignore special teams. Karl Brooks made the game-saving block at Chicago last Sunday. The Bears can put all the asterisks they want in their media guide, but that was a great play, just like when Don Majkowski threw that 4th down pass to Sterling Sharpe in 1989 to win the game vs the Bears. That was a clean play just like the block last Sunday.
Just because the 49ers are shorthanded, don’t think for a minute that this game will be a walk in the park. We have seen backup quarterbacks have spirited performances in the past. Even SF had Elvis Grbac on a Monday night in 1996. The Packers really had to fight to come back in that game and send it into overtime, which they won on a 53-yard field goal by Chris Jacke, at the time, it was the longest field goal to win an overtime game in NFL history.
The Packers are coming off an emotional game vs their bitter rivals while the 49ers are reeling a bit. This is a great time to step on their throats and take control of the game this Sunday. Don’t take anything for granted. Go out there and win this game Green Bay.
Whether you are at the game or hanging out at a sports bar or with friends, let’s cheer on our team and make our voices heard. I see the Packers getting this win, which would be huge despite who lines up for the opposition.
