Lions rain on Packers’ parade as Detroit wins at Lambeau
The Packers fell to 6-3 after the Detroit Lions won 24-14 at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Packers drove down the field for a 3-0 lead to start the game. The Lions answered with a touchdown on 4th down to take the lead. A disastrous interception by Jordan Love led to a 17-3 lead at halftime, and the Lions extended their lead to start the second half. The Packers were able to get a touchdown, but it was too little, too late as Detroit held on in this rainy battle in Green Bay.
Thoughts about the game:
The Packers had a golden opportunity to limit Detroit to a field goal, but an encroachment penalty gave the Lions a shorter field on 4th down and they converted with a touchdown.
Jordan Love is clearly not over his groin injury. His pick-6 before halftime was a disaster. Perhaps they weren’t going to win the game anyway, but you can’t give them a 14-point lead. Trailing by 7 would have at least given the Packers a fighting chance.
We knew the Packers would have to limit their mistakes and capitalize on their opportunities if they were to win this game. They couldn’t do enough of it. It’s ironic that the Packers were wearing their 50s jerseys, but it was actually Detroit who was good for much of the decade. Their last NFL Championship came in 1957. They are arguably playing their best football this far into the season since the 1950s.
It wasn’t meant to be for the Packers this week. The Vikings got a win on Sunday night vs the Colts, but the good thing is the Bears lost 29-9 at Arizona. Speaking of the Bears, that is the Packers’ next opponent. Green Bay has a bye this next week and then it is off to Soldier Field for their first matchup with Caleb Williams. You know they will be fired up because they are tired of losing to the Packers.
Now the Packers have the bye week to rest up and regroup. Some time away is good for the team and for us fans as well. Take care Packer fans! We’ll get back together in a week or so.
Go Pack Go!
