Packers welcome 1st-place Texans to Lambeau on Sunday
The Packers will look to keep their winning streak going as they host the Houston Texans on Sunday at Noon (Central Time) on CBS.
The Packers are 4-2 after last Sunday’s home win over the Arizona Cardinals, while the Texans are 5-1 after dismantling the New England Patriots 41-21 on the road last Sunday.
C.J. Stroud is a dynamic quarterback in his 2nd year. He was picked 2nd overall as the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young #1 instead of Stroud. I’m sure Carolina would like a redo. Anyway, Stroud has players who can stretch the field. Nico Collins is out, which is a big loss for Houston, but they still have Stefon Diggs, who many Packer fans are more than familiar with during his time with the Vikings. Stroud has been sacked 16 times, so the Packers need to generate a pass rush and throw off his timing. They didn’t get an interception last Sunday vs Arizona, but they did recover 3 fumbles by the Cardinals. Keep those turnovers coming.
Jordan Love looks like he is finally getting into a groove. He will need it to continue vs Houston. Let’s get that running game going. Romeo Doubs responded with 2 touchdown receptions. Christian Watson made some nice plays as well. They have quite an injury list. Let’s hope most of these “questionable” players are able to see some action on the field this Sunday.
The Packers made a change at kicker as they sent Brayden Narveson packing. They signed veteran Brandon McManus, who spent most of his career kicking for the Denver Broncos and was on their Super Bowl 50 champion team. He will wear #17, so you can get out those jerseys from your closets and put some tape or whatever over the name.
This might be a bit of a shift in strategy for the Packers as they tended to shy away from these players who carried baggage, although McManus was cleared of any wrongdoing. He is a guy who can help our team. Remember when the Packers signed Andre Rison in 1996? That turned out very well for them as they went undefeated with him on the roster and won Super Bowl XXXI.
The Packers are 4-1 all-time vs the Houston Texans. That lone loss came at Lambeau Field in 2008, when Aaron Rodgers was in his 1st year as the starter. The first two games of this series were won on a field goal as time expired, both by the road teams and both victories decided by 3 points each.
This Sunday is a “Winter Warning” game for the Packers, which means they will be wearing white, including their helmets. They seem to wear white at home at least once a year now. All I care about is the victory.
DeMeco Ryans was a linebacker for the Texans and the Eagles. In fact, he played in Houston’s lone win over Green Bay. Now as the head coach, he has them playing some good football. The team is 5-1 with their only loss coming to the Vikings in Minnesota. Again with the Vikings! I’m sick of that team. This game will likely be a challenge for the Packers. I could see the outcome being in doubt until late in the game. They need to be ready for anything and everything that Houston will throw at them.
Despite the “winter” atmosphere the Packers are promoting, it is predicted to be around 65 on Sunday and getting warmer as the game goes on. If you are going to the game, have a great time! Whether you are there or anywhere else, let’s get behind the team and cheer them to victory on Sunday!
