Packers showed fight but their season has come to an end
The Packers put up a pretty good fight and led throughout much of the game, but when it was all said and done, the 49ers advanced to the NFC Championship Game with a 24-21 victory.
The Packers won the toss and chose the ball once again, driving down the field for 3 points. The lead bounced around and the Packers led 21-14 entering the 4th quarter, but the 49ers chipped away with a field goal and took the lead with just over a minute remaining. Jordan Love made a lot of good throws, but his final pass of the season was an interception.
Thoughts about this game and this season:
The Packers did a lot of good things this season and showed that the bright lights of the playoffs weren’t too bright for them. They steamrolled the Cowboys and stood toe-to-toe with the 49ers before finally falling.
A lot of plays the Packers didn’t make hurt them in this game. Darnell Savage dropped an interception early, a possible Pick-6. They got stopped on 4th down, costing them at least 3 points and maybe 7. Anders Carlson missed a 41-yard FG in the 4th quarter. All of these plays get magnified in the playoffs, especially in a close game.
This hurts right now and the ultimate goal in Green Bay is to win it all. That doesn’t mean that the season is a total disappointment. Who would have thought they would get this far? It’s not like their window is closing. In fact, it is just the opposite. Their window is just opening. They have a lot of young players and good pieces. They just need to learn how to win games like this one and make the plays they missed against SF.
I knew this was going to be a very tough game to win. SF is a very good team, but they didn’t look like world beaters against GB. They will end up losing next week or in the Super Bowl unless they take their performance to a much higher level. The Packers are not very far away. They just need to learn how to win and put teams away. I think they will have their moment in the very near future.
It’s been fun but now it is time for the Packers to hit the offseason and focus on getting better. Take care Packer fans! It was great watching this team grow!
