Packers clinch the #1 seed with their win vs Minnesota
The road to the Super Bowl in the NFC goes through Lambeau Field as the Packers clinched the #1 seed with a 37-10 win vs the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers started out the scoring by kicking a pair of field goals for a 6-0 lead, but they got going with Aaron Rodgers firing touchdown passes to Allen Lazard and Davante Adams to open up a 20-0 lead before the Vikings kicked a FG of their own right before halftime. The Packers stretched it to 30-3 before both teams exchanged touchdowns to make the final score 37-10.
Thoughts about this win:
The Arizona Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys on the road 25-22 to give the Packers the possibility of clinching the top seed a week early. All they had to do was beat the Vikings and the #1 seed was theirs.
Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes, no interceptions, didn’t get sacked, got some nice production out of the running backs and another 100+ yards receiving from Davante Adams, so basically not much out of the ordinary for the offense.
The Vikings were playing with a backup quarterback out there and Sean Mannion made a few nice throws, but he got almost nothing out of their running game. They didn’t go to it much later in the game due to the fact they were so far behind. The only touchdown they would get was set up by a wacky play where the ball bounced backwards into the air and Center Garrett Bradbury caught it before it hit the ground and ran for a large gain with the football. It was similar to the Immaculate Reception by Franco Harris in a playoff game.
The Packers are 13-3 for the third year in a row. The difference this year is they have an extra game to play, but 13 wins in 3 consecutive seasons is quite an accomplishment. The most important stat moving forward is 3 wins in the playoffs.
Jordan Love appeared late in the game and made some nice plays. It is unclear whether or not he will start but he will likely get a lot of action next week in Detroit.
This wraps up the home portion of the Packers’ schedule this regular season. They play the Detroit Lions next week at Ford Field, have a week off, and then will host a game in the Divisional Playoff Round.
Things are falling into place for the Packers right now. They cannot afford any more injuries and will hopefully get most of their injured players back in time for the playoffs. The year 2022 is off to a nice start for Green Bay. Let’s keep it going!
