The Packers look to dominate once again this week as they face the Eagles
The Packers will play at Lambeau Field for the second consecutive Sunday as the Philadelphia Eagles come in for a late afternoon game.
Both teams played during prime time last week. The Packers improved to 8-3 after their 41-25 victory over the Chicago Bears last Sunday night. The Eagles are 3-7-1, losing at home to the Seattle Seahawks 23-17 last Monday night.
QB Carson Wentz had some decent stats in the first few years of his career but he hasn’t been consistent this year. He throws a lot of interceptions and he is only completing 58.1% of his passes. When he has it going, he can be very good. My guess is that they will try to use RB Miles Sanders early and often to keep the Packers’ offense off the field. They don’t have a lot of household names at receiver other than perhaps DeSean Jackson, but he is on injured reserve. They have TE Richard Rodgers, who caught a long touchdown pass in the endzone that was deflected. Always know where he is on those Hail Mary passes. The Packers have a job to do to keep Sanders from having a huge game and keep the pressure on Wentz. They have done a good job of getting turnovers lately. Keep that going on Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers continues to pile up the numbers and make his case for MVP this season. Davante Adams needs 92 receiving yards for 1,000 on the season. Aaron Jones, along with Aaron Rodgers, celebrated a birthday on Wednesday. Maybe both of them can have a big game to celebrate. With their 41-point outburst vs the Bears last Sunday, they are once again the highest-scoring team in the league, moving ahead of Kansas City by a point. They have a chance to put up some huge numbers again on Sunday. Let’s get the offense going once again.
The Packers signed Tavon Austin this last week and he will probably be used to return punts and maybe kickoffs. Whatever he brings as a receiver or a runner will be a huge bonus.
The Eagles’ leading receiver for the year so far is Travis Fulgham. He was released by the Packers in training camp so he might want to have a huge game on Sunday, especially since the Packers had question marks at receiver coming into the season. Perhaps he might want to send a message that they could have had him but they let him go.
Only in the NFC (L)east could a team at 3-7-1 still be in the playoff hunt. The Eagles are currently in third place in the division, trailing the Giants and the Washington Football Team. The Cowboys, who currently have the worst record in the NFC, are right behind the Eagles. How crazy it is that the team with the worst record in the conference could potentially take the lead in the division within two weeks.
There has been talk about Eagles’ HC Doug Pederson and whether he is on the hot seat. He does have a Super Bowl victory three years ago, so perhaps he will be given at least another year. I could be wrong too. There have been more shocking head coaching changes in the past.
The Eagles have a bad record but they have been competitive in a lot of their losses. The Packers cannot take this team lightly. Besides, the Eagles surprised the Packers at Lambeau Field last season and handed HC Matt LaFleur his first loss as a head coach. This is another classic trap game. After the Packers’ emotional win over the Bears and the Eagles having a bad record and coming in after playing on Monday night, the Packers could be ripe for an upset if they aren’t careful. They need to stay focused and come out ready to dominate on Sunday.
That was a great win over the Bears on Sunday night, but the time for celebrating is now over. This game against the Eagles is the only one that matters right now. If they take care of business and play the way they are capable of playing, things will fall into place. This is a game the Packers should dominate once again. I will take a victory for sure but I want to see them take control of this game. It’s time for the Packers to play their best football of the season. Let’s cheer the Packers to victory this Sunday and celebrate once again!
