Packers seek redemption as they head West to take on the 49ers
The Packers look to rebound from their setback to Minnesota as they take on the San Francisco 49ers on the West Coast on Thursday night.
The Packers are 5-2, but their last game was a 28-22 loss to the Vikings while the 49ers lost 37-27 to the Seahawks in Seattle.
The 49ers will be without Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, and Raheem Mostert. Nick Mullens is in line to make the start at quarterback. They are also without Deebo Samuel, their talented wide receiver. They are very short-handed on offense, but the Packers need to come out with a better defensive effort than what they have been showing the last several games. It’s time to start showing up. Let’s show some pride and get after them. Force some turnovers for crying out loud. Get a pass rush. We need a good effort after the garbage performance we saw last Sunday.
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t have any other weapons after the trade deadline, but it’s possible that he could get Aaron Jones back. If not, they are very thin at running back. Davante Adams will go out there and make plays, but who else will step up? Will we get Allen Lazard back on Thursday? If not, they have options but they need to catch the ball and make plays. They need to capitalize on their opportunities and get the ball in the endzone whenever they get close. They can’t take anything for granted.
With A.J. Dillon sidelined with COVID-19 and Jamaal Williams on the bench as well, the hope is that Aaron Jones can play to provide them with a decent running game. Welcome to 2020 everyone.
In actuality, it’s the 49ers who need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, but the Packers lost to them twice last season and lost badly, so the Packers have something to prove as well, no matter who is playing for either side. They were embarrassed at home vs Minnesota last Sunday, so hopefully, that means they are hoping to make amends for that poor performance.
Both teams are playing for redemption this Thursday. I am not a fan of Thursday night games, to begin with, but anything can happen, especially in a short week. It’s time for the Packers to make a statement and come out with a big win. Let’s get it done Green Bay!
