Packers fall in finale as they face the Eagles in the first round of the playoffs
The Packers finished the regular season 11-6 as they fell 24-22 to the Chicago Bears in the finale.
The Packers got the ball first and went nowhere. After their second punt of the game, the Bears returned it for a touchdown. The Packers trailed 14-13 at the half. After trailing 21-13, the Packers rallied for a touchdown and a field goal with less than a minute left. The Bears got close enough for a 51-yard field goal to win the game on the final play of the game.
Thoughts about this game:
The Packers lost Christian Watson and Jordan Love in this game due to injuries. It’s possible Love could have come back, but they didn’t want to risk it in a game like this.
I believe the Packers made a major mistake on the final drive of the game. They should have rushed Caleb Williams and disrupted this rhythm. Instead, he completed a pass on 3rd and long for a 1st down and was able to spike the ball in time for the game-winning field goal.
The 11-game winning streak vs the Bears is over. Oh well! The Washington Commanders rallied and won their game so the Packers would’ve been the #7 seed regardless. The Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road on Sunday in the late afternoon.
The larger concern is their injuries, particularly to Christian Watson and Jordan Love. I think Love will be able to play in their playoff game. It isn’t so certain about Watson, but they will need all the help they can get if they are going to avoid a quick exit from the playoffs.
Matt LaFleur wanted the Packers to have some momentum going into the playoffs. He won’t have that and won’t have the team free from injury issues. It is what it is and we can’t change that. Hopefully, they can recover in time as they face the Eagles next Sunday. Only time will tell. Have a great week Packer fans!
