Packers lose grip on the #6 seed as they fall to Vikings
The Packers fell to 11-5 after the Vikings won 27-25 on Sunday.
The Packers won the coin toss and took the ball. They had a good drive going until Josh Jacobs fumbled, but they ended up scoring first anyway on a field goal. The Vikings would score the next 20 points of the game. After both teams traded touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, the Packers scored 15 in the 4th but were unable to get the ball back and the Vikings ran out the clock.
Thoughts about this game:
That fumble derailed things from the start. In a game of this magnitude, turnovers were huge and that was a costly one.
A 6-point swing against the Packers was costly too. They failed on 4th down. The Vikings missed a FG right before the half but the Packers jumped offsides. They took advantage of the mistake by nailing it this time.
Just like in the matchup at Lambeau Field, the Packers rallied from a large deficit to make a game of it late, but just like last time, the Packers were unable to go ahead or force that key stop.
The Packers now have 5 losses, all against the 3 NFC teams with better records than them. While they have been able to play with them and keep it close, they ended up on the losing side each time. Until they actually find a way to win one of these games, there will be those who won’t take them seriously come playoff time.
They will have to wait until the playoffs to prove that they can win these types of games because their next game is at home next Sunday vs the Bears. Since the Commanders defeated the Falcons on Sunday night, the Packers have fallen into the #7 spot, which means that they would face the Eagles on the road in the current playoff scenario.
The Packers need a win vs the Bears and the Commanders to lose on the road vs the Cowboys for Green Bay to get the #6 seed. Otherwise, they will remain at #7. They just need to take care of their own business next week and we’ll see what happens elsewhere. Have a great week Packer fans and a Happy New Year!
