Packers look to feast on Dolphins this Thanksgiving Night
The Packers play on Thanksgiving for the second year in a row, but this time it will be at night and at Lambeau Field as they host the Miami Dolphins on NBC.
The Packers improved to 8-3 after blowing out the San Francisco 49ers at home last Sunday while the Dolphins are 5-6 but have won 3 straight, including last Sunday’s 34-15 win over the New England Patriots.
Tua Tagovailoa nearly had his season and possibly his career ended with his latest concussion earlier this season, but he is back and playing very well. They have 3 good running backs in De’Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Raheem Mostert, and some deep threats in Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, at receiver and Jonnu Smith at tight end. They can hit you in a number of different ways. The Packers cannot let their guard down on defense. They got back to taking the ball away on defense this past Sunday. Let’s get some more and capitalize on them.
Jordan Love is coming off his first game all year in which he didn’t throw an interception. They got the running game going early and often vs the 49ers. I look for them to do more of the same on Thursday, especially with chilly weather in the forecast. The Packers played turnover-free football on Sunday. They have a great chance of winning if they protect the ball once again.
This series has an interesting history. The Packers and Dolphins have met 16 previous times, and Miami is 10-6 all time, but the Packers have won 6 of the past 8 meetings. It wasn’t until 1997 that the Packers won their first game in the series. An interesting stat: The Packers scored their first 2-point conversion in team history vs the Dolphins in 1994. Brett Favre connected with Ed West in a game played at Milwaukee County Stadium.
Miami was 2-6 at one point and faced an uncertain future with their star quarterback, but he returned and has taken some steps in reducing the chances of suffering another concussion. They have played well the last 3 games, although none of the teams currently has a winning record, and their last 2 wins have come against the Raiders and the Patriots, who have a combined 5 wins on the season. Wins are wins though and the Packers have to be ready, especially with the short week they have to prepare for the game.
It’s going to be a chilly night in Green Bay. It should work to the Packers’ advantage, but they have to play in this weather too. Turnovers and big plays will be huge in a game like this. This will be the first of 4 games for the Packers in prime time.
It’s always special to play on Thanksgiving. The Packers will have matched last season’s win total in the regular season if they can win this game. It will be quite an atmosphere on Thursday night. Let’s get this win Green Bay! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and your loved ones!
