Packers show grit in road win vs Rams
The Packers improved to 3-2 after defeating the Rams 24-19 on the road late Sunday afternoon.
After both teams were forced to punt on their respective opening possessions, Jordan Love completed a beautiful 53-yard pass to Jayden Reed, setting up a touchdown run by Josh Jacobs. The Rams answered later in the half and scored another touchdown on a pick-6 thrown by Love. The Packers drove down the field and scored on a field goal to cut the deficit to 13-10 Rams at the half. The Packers forced turnovers on the Rams’ first two drives of the second half, turning them into touchdowns. The Rams scored a touchdown late in the game, but were unable to score on their final possession and the Packers held on for a nice road win.
Thoughts about this win:
Jordan Love threw perhaps the worst pass of his career as he tried to avoid a safety, resulting in his first career pick-6. The good thing is he didn’t let that pass ruin his confidence as he was efficient to end the first half and carried it into the second half.
Tucker Kraft had two nice touchdowns in the second half. His first was a short pass that he converted into a 66-yard reception, throwing defenders out of his way. His second went for 7 yards as he dove into the endzone.
The Packers needed to turn things around in the second half, and the defense helped out in a huge way, forcing a fumble on Rams’ running back Kyren Williams and recovering the ball. Xavier McKinney had another interception, 1 in each game so far and 5 on the year. He also recovered that fumble by Williams. He came so close to having another interception later in the game.
Kicker Brayden Narveson did well on his only FG attempt of the game, hitting from 46 yards before the half ended. Just continue to make those kicks. Speaking of kickers, the Rams’ kicker had an extra point blocked after Love’s pick-6. That forced the Rams to try for 2 points later in the game, and they failed to convert. Those misses often come back to bite you and the Rams were down 5 points, needing a touchdown on their final possession, where they turned the ball over on downs.
A lot of Packer fans made the trip and they had their voices heard in Inglewood on Sunday. It was great to see and hear and the Packers rewarded those fans with a victory.
The Packers still have much room for improvement, but it was great to get a win, their first road win over the Los Angeles Rams (not counting the time they were in St. Louis) since December of 1966. That is certainly a long time, but they made themselves at home on the road on Sunday.
The Packers now return home to face the Arizona Cardinals, who got a nice road win themselves, defeating the 49ers in Santa Clara. The Packers need to be ready for a competitive game this coming Sunday. For now, they can enjoy this victory for a bit, and so can us fans. Until then, have a great week, Packer fans!
