Malik Willis and the defense both shine in road win over Titans
The Packers improved to 2-1 and kept the Titans winless as they won 30-14 at Tennessee on Sunday afternoon.
The Packers and Titans traded touchdowns to start the game. After the Packers got a field goal on their next possession, Jaire Alexander intercepted the ball and took it the distance for a 17-7 lead. The Packers added a field goal before halftime for a 20-7 lead. After the Packers stopped the Titans to start the 3rd quarter, both teams traded touchdowns before the Packers added a field goal late in the game. It was the first win for the Packers in Tennessee in franchise history.
Thoughts about this win:
A week after the Packers ran all over the Colts, the Titans weren’t going to allow the Packers to win that way, so Malik Willis ended up being more of a passer, and he did well. He also had some nice runs that set up scores for the offense. Speaking of rushing, they still ended up with 188 yards, much of that coming in the second half as they played some ball control.
Will Levis made some plays for the Titans, but he also threw 2 interceptions and lost a fumble on a sack. Speaking of sacks, the Packers had 8 of them.
Jaire Alexander had a pick-6 after not having an interception at all last year in the regular season. Xavier McKinney had a late interception, giving him 3 for the season, 1 in each game so far. The team has 7 interceptions overall after only 7 last season.
An area the Packers need to clean up is the number of penalties. They had 10 for 75 yards. One of those penalties wiped away a sack on the Titans’ first touchdown drive. Instead of settling for a field goal, they got new life and scored a touchdown instead.
Brayden Narveson missed a 48-yard field goal, but it was erased due to a penalty. The Packers capitalized on it and scored a touchdown on a screen pass to Emanuel Wilson. Back to Narveson, he later made a 47-yard field goal in the game. Perhaps he adjusted and is learning from his misses.
It was a great last 2 games for the Packers with Willis filling in for Jordan Love. We shall see if Love is able to return next week. It should be a good one too because the Packers get the Vikings at Lambeau Field next Sunday, looking to hand Minnesota their first loss of the season. Wouldn’t that be great? Enjoy the win Packer fans and have a great week!
