Packers stumble in the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil
The Packers fell to the Eagles 34-29 in their season opener in Brazil.
The Packers started out well on defense, getting turnovers on the Eagles’ first two drives, but they could only come away with field goals. The first half went back and forth and the Packers went into halftime with a 19-17 lead. The Eagles came out on fire in the second half, however, but the Packers made some big runs and big receptions too. In the end, the Eagles took too much time off the clock and the Packers started the season 0-1.
The Packers did some good things. They showed they could make big plays on offense. They are still a bit inconsistent, settling for field goals instead of touchdowns. Their defense, very good at times, still has a ways to go, giving up too many big plays and poor tackling and penalties didn’t help matters either.
They left a lot of points on the field. In addition to settling for too many field goals, they failed to capitalize on a penalty and got stopped short of the end zone on a 2-point try. Brayden Narveson, who they signed off waivers, had a 43-yard FG attempt hit the right upright. It was a huge miss in a close game such as this.
In a bit of good news, Josh Jacobs and Jayden Reed looked very good. Jordan Love made some great throws, but he had a bad interception and missed some open receivers. The big news is Love getting injured toward the end of the game. He stayed down for a while and had to get helped off the field. It’s too early to tell, but a promising sight was that he was able to put some weight on both of his feet as he walked off the field.
The good news is that this Brazil game has come and gone. They didn’t play well enough to get the win. They have a little bit of extra time to improve on things, and the extra time also helps players like Jordan Love, assuming he avoided the worst-case scenario. The next time they will take the field for a game will be in their home opener vs the Indianapolis Colts at Noon Central Time on September 15th. Take care Packer fans!
