The 2024-25 schedule for the Packers and thoughts
The schedule is out for the 2024-25 season, and that means it’s time for many of us to make our plans revolving around the Packers. Here is a review of the schedule and some things that have caught my eye.
We’ve known for a while that the Packers were going to play the Eagles in Brazil on a Friday to begin their regular season. Their home opener will come 9 days later vs the Colts. Their bye is in Week 10. They play at home vs the 49ers the Sunday before Thanksgiving in what figures to be a bloodbath. For the second year in a row, they will play on Thanksgiving, this time a home game and in prime time vs the Dolphins. They then play the following Thursday in Detroit. They finish off the regular season the same way they did this past season, with a road game at Minnesota and at home vs the Bears.
The Packers under Matt LaFleur have still not opened their season at home as they will play away from Lambeau Field for the sixth year in a row. The game in Brazil will be quite a sight to see. Hopefully the Packers have a much better showing than that game in London a few years ago. The Packers have only 1 divisional opponent during the first 8 weeks, the Vikings at home. They only have a single stretch where they are playing consecutive road games, the Thursday night game at Detroit and then Sunday night at Seattle. In fact, starting with the Thanksgiving night game, the Packers will be on prime time 4 games in a row, and the previous game, the big showdown vs San Francisco, will be in the late afternoon. Since the Packers have only 1 preseason home game, they will have 3 Gold Package games, all of them vs their divisional opponents.
Nothing is guaranteed in this league, but there is no reason why the Packers can’t have a great season. I’m looking for more consistency from them this season. Last season, they had to deal with the transition to Jordan Love the #1 quarterback, and they had their moments and some disappointments. They have the potential to have one of the top offenses in the NFL. How will their defense perform? Jeff Hafley seems to have a different philosophy than his predecessors, but it will ultimately be determined by results.
The Eagles started out hot last season and then went into a swoon, looking worse and worse every week. They still have a boatload of talent though and have the whole offseason to figure out what went wrong and what they need to do to fix it. I expect quite a game between the teams, especially with Love and Jalen Hurts leading their respective teams. Every year, there seems to be a team or multiple teams who jump out and surprise us. Regardless, I think the Packers are more than capable of winning any game on their schedule. If they can beat the Chiefs, they can beat anybody. They put quite a scare into the 49ers in the playoffs. They embarrassed the “mighty” Cowboys in their own building.
I’m not putting limitations on this team. They are fully capable of beating anyone in any stadium. They defeated all 3 divisional opponents on the road this past season. The players need to block out the noise, both in the opposing teams’ stadiums and in the media. Don’t believe the hype and don’t pay attention to the haters. Just go out and do what you’re supposed to do to help the team win games. If you do that, there is no limit to what the Packers can accomplish this next season. Take care Packer fans! The season is less than 4 months away!
