Brewers ride into the Sunset
Brewers Stun the Snakes 14-4
The Diamondbacks rolled into the Phoenix American Family Fields on Sunday, as the dark clouds parked over the stadium, a menacing wind blew in directly from Lake Michigan. That frosty jet stream helped carry the ball over the wall all day for the Brew Crew, as they routed the D-Backs 14 to 4 for the final! DL Hall certainly worked out any kinks in his form as he finished strong on the mound in his final Cactus League game. Between Hall’s performance icing hitters at the plate, and the offensive bats catching fire in the 6th, this game could’ve been brought to you by Shaq with IcyHot. Here’s some of the details on the day for Milwaukee as they finish up spring camp.
Slight trouble surfaced in the second inning from Arizona’s offense, as some hits came off Hall’s fastball and a mishap by Gary Sanchez at the plate. After a little slap around though, Hall was able to lock in and shut down the snakes for the rest of his day. He ended the stat box by retiring 11 batters, giving up 5 hits, 4 strikeouts and no walks through five innings. Feeling primed after this final tune up, Coach Murphy is likely to start him in the number 2 spot of the starting rotation. He’s the leading choice to start this coming Saturday in the Brewers second regular season game in New York.
Now what all the Brewer’s fans have been waiting for, hits, steals, and a whole lotta dingers! Perkins got things started in the second inning with a sacrifice grounder to score a runner. Brice Turang gets up later in the inning, drives in another runner from second, and then steals both 2nd and 3rd base! Staying aggressive on the base paths, Frelick stole third after lining a double into right field the next inning. After that, Yelich hit a squeeze grounder to first base, bringing Frelick sliding safely into home. Batting next, Willy “long ball” Adames.. Smacking a Homer to left field onto the top of the lawn seating to score him and Yelich on base!
Some more clouds roll by, fake eyelashes float in the wind, as the 5th inning begins. Frelick squares one up and bounces it off of the centerfield wall camera stand. Just incase the fans needed to stretch again, Hoskins walks up and hits a back to back jack! At this point the Diamondbacks are just deciding if they have enough arms in their bullpen to ride it out, or call the mercy rule if one exists for spring ball. Then Will Adames enters, again.. Taking advantage of that cool jetstream wind, Adames sends another ball sailing off the top of the extended center field wall!
Left fielder Luis Lara decided that home runs look like fun, so he decided to hit one too to start the base path parade in the 6th inning for Milwaukee! Then as if Willy Adames hadn’t murdered enough baseballs for one day, WHAMMY! His third, third slug of the day, lands over the extended wall in center field. With his foot counting as the twelfth run. Just to finish the 6th inning with some sauce, Blake Perkins drives in another run with a double hit in the hole between right and center field.
Pat Murphy will still have a few names to switch around before the opening day pitch is thrown in New York on Friday, but plenty of positive momentum will be leaving the Arizona desert! There will be a few combinations to choose from between catcher and DH. Center fielder Garrett Mitchell fractured his left hand and will start the season on the injured list, leaving a hole in the field and on the base paths. The skipper is no stranger to improvising however, and should have this team ready to storm the National League Central. This concludes the Cactus League 2024 spring training, see ya back in Milwaukee!
