Jordan Love shines as “Big D” is defeated
The #7 Packers are still alive in the playoffs as they knocked off the #2 Dallas Cowboys 48-32 at AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Packers got the ball first and scored a touchdown. The Cowboys were unable to answer, and the Packers scored 27 unanswered points before the Cowboys scored a touchdown just before halftime to make it 27-7 in favor of the Packers. The Cowboys scored a field goal in their first drive of the third quarter, but the Packers quickly answered and kept pouring it on, leading 48-16 at one point. The Cowboys scored a few touchdowns late, but it was too late as the Packers held on and advanced to the next round of the playoffs.
Thought about this win:
Jordan Love shined in his first game, throwing for 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Aaron Jones was a running machine, rushing for 118 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Romeo Doubs added 151 yards and a touchdown to propel the Packers into the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The Cowboys once had their triplets with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, but the Packers had their own 3-headed monster on this day.
Jaire Alexander had a big interception deep in Dallas territory, and Darnell Savage had a pick-6 as the Packers scored 14 points off Cowboy turnovers.
With the Packers leading 27-0, the Cowboys managed to score a touchdown right before the half ended. They got the ball first, but they only scored a field goal. The Packers took the ball and drove down the field for a touchdown. The Cowboys only shaved 3 points off their deficit in that time frame. That might have all but sealed things right there.
What does that mean those on the hot seat? Did Joe Barry do enough to keep his job? Only time will tell as his team is still alive. Mike McCarthy, coaching against his former team, is really on the hot seat. If he resigns or is fired, where do the Cowboys go from here? Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn might be getting interviews elsewhere. Owner Jerry Jones is 81 years old and might be in desperation mode as he looks to capture another Super Bowl title before he leaves this world. There are more questions in Dallas than in Green Bay right now, and that’s how it should be.
With the win, the Packers improved to 5-4 vs the Cowboys in the playoffs. In games outside of Texas Stadium, the Packers have not lost vs the Cowboys, going 1-0 in the old Cotton Bowl, 2-0 at Lambeau Field, and 2-0 at AT&T Stadium. It’s amazing that the Packers have a winning record despite playing 7 of 9 games on the road vs the Cowboys in the playoffs.
With the win, the Packers are the first ever #7 seed to advance in the playoffs. It doesn’t get any easier as they now play the San Francisco 49ers at Santa Clara this coming Saturday. The 49ers have been resting some players in their final game in the regular season so hopefully they will come out rusty. The Packers just ended the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning streak, and they held Dallas to 0 points in the first quarter at home for the first time all season. No team should feel comfortable with playing the Packers right now. It should be quite a game this Saturday night.
This is an awesome win by the Packers as Jordan Love joined Lynn Dickey and Brett Favre as the only Packer quarterbacks since 1950 to win their first playoff start. There will be another game for Green Bay next weekend. Enjoy the win for now Packer fans!
