Packers unable to steal a win in Pittsburgh
The Packers were in another tight game but came up short as they fell 23-19 to the Steelers on the road.
Both the Steelers and the Packers traded touchdowns on their opening possessions. The Steelers answered with 10 straight points before the Packers scored a touchdown of their own but got the extra point blocked as they went into halftime trailing 17-13. The Packers briefly took the lead in the second half, but the Steelers matched them in scoring for the half as they held on for a 4-point victory at home.
Thoughts about this game:
Jordan Love did a lot of good things in this game. His footwork and decision making looked decent for the most part, at least until he threw that first interception in the endzone in the 4th quarter. He will eventually learn that you can’t make that kind of throw in that situation.
The Packers had some missed opportunities. An interception by Keisean Nixon was taken away because he ran out of room on the sidelines and he failed to drag his foot as he was going out of bounds. A backwards pass that resulted in a recovery by the Packers was nullified, both in the field of play and during replay. I definitely think they got the call wrong. The Steelers had to punt but that was a huge momentum swing.
That blocked extra point attempt by the Packers in the first half was a huge moment in the game. They trailed by 4 points in the 4th quarter, which obviously meant they had to go for the touchdown instead of a field goal in the final seconds of the game.
In the end, it’s another frustrating loss for the Packers in the final minutes of the game. They once again settled for too many field goals, committed too many penalties, and missed opportunities to get turnovers and change the dynamic of this game. The only close game they won this year was against the Saints. They failed to make plays late in the game in the other games where they had a chance to win.
That was a nice win against the Rams a week ago, but this latest loss means that they have yet to produce a winning streak this season. The way it is looking now, victories will be few and far between. They will try again next week as they host the Chargers. Until then, have a great week Packer fans!
