Packers look for an upset of their own as they host the Vikings this Sunday
The Packers are playing their first home game in over a month as they play host to the Minnesota Vikings at Noon (Central Time) on Sunday.
Both teams are coming off upsets. The Packers fell to 2-4 after their 19-17 loss in Denver last Sunday, while the Vikings improved to 3-4 after their 22-17 home victory over the 49ers on Monday night.
Kirk Cousins was mentioned in trade rumors after the Vikings got off to a bad start to the season. Now that they’ve stabilized a bit, that is no longer the case. They no longer have Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson is injured, but the Vikings can certainly move the ball, especially since the Packers can’t seem to stop anyone on defense right now. They need to get after Cousins and disrupt this offense, or else it will be another uphill climb for the Packers.
Jordan Love needs a big game, not only to boost his confidence but to help the team get out of their offense woes. Aaron Jones will hopefully be more involved in the offense on Sunday as opposed to last week in Denver. If the Packers are to win on Sunday, they need to maximize their opportunities, especially on offense.
For the first several weeks of the season, it seemed like these teams were heading in different directions. The Packers, while not dominant, looked like they had a winning formula, while the Vikings were losing the close games they won last year. It’s different now, especially since the Vikings finished off that shocking upset win over the 49ers and without Justin Jefferson too.
It’s possible that there will be quite a bit of purple in the stands with more Vikings’ fans than usual coming into Lambeau Field. I’ve read the posts and blogs of worried fans, and I’m not very thrilled about it either, but the game vs the Lions had a lot of opposing fans there too. The best thing to have happen is for the team to give the home fans something to cheer about. That will drown out any noise from the opposition.
All of the games the Vikings have played in so far this year have been decided by 8 points or fewer. This figures to be a close game. Nothing we’ve seen from the Packers in the last month should make us believe that they will win this game. It is the NFL though, and I’ve seen the Packers lose to horrible teams the week before and then beat a playoff team in the next game. This is still a rivalry and quite a bitter one at that, no matter the records of either team. I see it coming down to the final few minutes and the Packers holding on for an impressive victory. Let’s make it happen! Enjoy the game if you will be there in person and make your voices heard!
