Packers look to shine under the bright lights in Vegas
The Packers have had plenty of rest since their last game and now get ready to take on the Las Vegas Raiders on the road this Monday night.
The Packers are 2-2 after falling 34-20 at home to the Lions on Thursday Night Football. The Raiders are 1-3 after losing 24-17 on the road to the Chargers on Sunday.
Jimmy Garoppolo is a familiar foe for the Packers, but he is now in a different uniform, a Silver and Black uniform. The Packers will be facing Davante Adams for the first time as an opponent, assuming he plays. Assuming Jaire Alexander also plays, that will be quite a matchup. Josh Jacobs and the rest of the running game have not taken off, ranking dead last in the NFL, but the Packers’ run defense is the third worst in the league. Something has to give. This defense needs to make a statement this Monday night. Get after the quarterback and get some turnovers.
He wasn’t terrible but Jordan Love will look to rebound after his performance vs the Lions. The offensive line needs to come together and provide some help, both for Love and for the running game. Christian Watson is still listed as questionable, but he will probably give it a try. Speaking of the running game, the Packers are third worst in rushing offense, but hopefully Aaron Jones can help change that. They need to take advantage of all of their opportunities. This is no time to be squandering good field position and settling for field goals.
The Packers lead the all-time series 9-5 vs the Raiders, including their Super Bowl II win. That was the first time those two teams met. After that, the Raiders took the next 5 games. The Packers didn’t defeat the Raiders in the regular season until 1990, but once they did, that was the start of an 8-game winning streak. This will be the first time these two teams played since the Raiders moved to Vegas. The Raiders are looking to get a win vs Green Bay for the first time since 1987.
The Raiders’ lone victory this season came in Week 1, a 17-16 comeback win at Denver. They aren’t tearing it up in the NFL right now. Josh McDaniels hasn’t been very successful in his second stint as an NFL head coach so far. The Packers still need to take this game and this opponent seriously. It remains to be seen how good of a team Green Bay is this season. Probably the only thing we can say is that they’re better than the Bears, and that isn’t saying much.
The Packers have gone from playing in the first game in Week 4 to the last game in Week 5, a huge amount of rest. After this game, they will have their bye week. They should be well-rested and I expect them to come out with a lot of energy and focus. I see the Packers taking this one in Vegas and then enjoying some extra time off. Let’s get it done this Monday night Green Bay!
