It’s now on to Atlanta after their convincing road win vs their bitter rivals
After a convincing victory in Week 1, the Packers will once again hit the road as they face the Atlanta Falcons at Noon Central Time on Sunday.
That Week 1 win of course was their 38-20 victory at Soldier Field. The Falcons also won in Week 1 as they defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10 at home.
The Falcons don’t feature a lot of household names. Desmond Ridder is their starting quarterback and will be playing in his sixth career game on Sunday. Their running backs, Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, combined for 131 yards on 25 carries vs Carolina on Sunday. Their leading receiver on Sunday was the tight end, Kyle Pitts. This is a very young offense, but they did not turn the ball over at all vs Carolina. I look for the Packers to focus on shutting down their running game and forcing them to throw the ball.
It was a huge relief to finally get that first game (and win) out of the way. Jordan Love showed us what he is capable of doing on the football field. The status of Aaron Jones is up in the air as he is dealing with a hamstring issue. We don’t know as of now if Christian Watson will get his first action of the year. What we do know is that we have other options. Against the Bears, the offense moved the ball effectively, converted on third and fourth downs consistently, and didn’t turn the ball over. If they do the same thing on Sunday, they have a great chance of winning.
The Falcons are an interesting team. They don’t get featured much on the national stage, but they have a lot of young players. They are probably the favorites right now to win their division, but that isn’t saying much with the quality of teams in the NFC South. However, someone still has to win the division and the Falcons won the turnover battle 3-0 vs Carolina. You have a great chance of winning if you are +3 in turnovers.
Now that the Packers have a game and a win under their belts in Week 1 vs their bitter rivals, we have a better feel of their identity and what they are capable of doing on the field. The Falcons have a young team as well that is looking to make a name for themselves. They also play on a fast track, unlike the turf at Soldier Field. The place will be rocking on Sunday.
The Packers passed their initial test. That was a great win as it always is when they defeat the Bears, but now their focus is on Atlanta. Let’s put together another solid game on all sides and get another road win.
Go Pack Go!
