Packers keep their slim playoff hopes alive after defeating the Rams
The Packers have now won consecutive games as they defeated the Rams 24-12 at Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football.
After a stop, the Packers got a field goal on their opening drive. They led 10-6 at halftime. They stretched it to 24-6 before the Rams got a touchdown to make it 24-12. They missed the extra point. The Packers took over with 8:51 left in the game and kept the ball the rest of the way to seal the victory.
Thoughts about this win:
Aaron Rodgers made some nice throws but threw an interception to give him 10 on the year, the first time he threw for double-digit INTs since 2010, the season the Packers won the Super Bowl. It is the third time he threw for 10+ interceptions in a season. He also did it in 2008, his first year as a starter.
Romeo Doubs returned to the lineup and made an impact, catching 5 passes for 55 yards. These young receivers are making plays these last several weeks.
Rasul Douglas made a big interception, but he lateraled it backwards and nearly turned it back over to the Rams. Didn’t they learn from the Patriots yesterday not to throw it back into the open field? It’s a good thing the Packers retained possession, even if it was further back than what they anticipated.
Keisean Nixon has established himself as a reliable returner. He gave the Packers great field position on more than one occasion.
The Packers got the ball with 8:51 left in the game and didn’t give it back. They converted on fourth down to seal the victory. They knelt down at the 1-yard line 3 times to end the game. I know some of you wanted them to go for a touchdown, especially with how chippy this game was, but it was the right decision. Besides, it saved the players from having to bang heads and needing to make tackles or at least prevent the other team from doing so. Just take the victory and get ready for the next game.
The Rams are eliminated from playoff contention but the Packers are still alive for a playoff berth. They have three games left in the regular season. Let’s see if they can win out and get some help. By the way, the 12-point win by the Packers was the most lopsided win in Week 15. Crazy isn’t it?
It’s still a long shot but the Packer are still alive and kicking. They now go on the road to face the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Day. It’s quite a change in the weather and quite a change in the level of competition. The Dolphins lost a tough road game to the team with the best record in the AFC, the Buffalo Bills. They will not be an easy opponent.
It’s a day later than usual, but let’s celebrate a Victory Tuesday and enjoy the win for a day or two. They will get back to work soon enough. Enjoy this wonderful time of year Packer fans! It’s on to Miami!
