Packers host Rams on Monday Night after Bye Week
The Packers are back in action as they host the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.
The Packers are 5-8 after their 28-19 road victory over the Chicago Bears, while the Rams are 4-9 after a 17-16 comeback win at home vs the Las Vegas Raiders.
Matthew Stafford will not be available for the Rams. Instead, it will be Baker Mayfield, who the Rams picked up not too long ago. Like the Packers, the Rams have struggled to get things going at times on offense, but they have players who are very capable of making huge plays. The Packers saw Baker Mayfield last season when he was with the Cleveland Browns, but he is on a new team and a new system this time.
Aaron Rodgers had some time to rest his injuries. December in Green Bay is often the time when they really start to get their running game involved. The good news is that Romeo Doubs is expected to return. How much he will actually play remains to be seen. The Rams haven’t been great on defense too often this year, but they still have players who are capable of changing the game and changing field position.
The Rams had a lot of things go right for them last season as they ended up winning the Super Bowl in their home stadium. This year is much different for them. They are going to miss the playoffs this season. The Packers won the last two meetings between the teams, both at Lambeau Field, including a playoff win two seasons ago. Had the Packers won their playoff game last year vs the San Francisco 49ers, they would have hosted the Rams for the right to go to the Super Bowl. It still hurts just thinking about what might have been.
This will be the first home game for the Packers in a little over a month. Things haven’t gone well for them overall this year, but they have a chance to win consecutive games for the first time since they won three in a row to improve to 3-1 on the season. A win over the defending champions is often a big deal. It’s not a lot to brag about this year. They just need a win to keep their small playoff hopes alive.
The Packers are coming off their bye week, but the Rams have had some time off as well, last having played on Thursday night, giving them a mini-bye. That gives them some time to have plays drawn up for Baker Mayfield. In some ways, the Rams have the advantage in this area.
This is not the ideal scenario to be in, but it’s still Monday Night Football and the Packers will still be playing at home in prime time. Wherever you are, let’s get ready to cheer the team to victory. Let’s play well and get this win in front of a national audience.
