Eagles’ rushing attack too much for Packers.
The Packers fell to 4-8 after a 40-33 road loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.
The Eagles scored twice to take a 13-0 lead, missing the extra point after their second touchdown. The Packers battled back to take a 14-13 lead. After the Eagles scored a touchdown, the Packers responded once again to tie the game at 20-20 after they missed an extra point of their own. The Eagles scored right before halftime to go up 27-20. Both teams scored 13 points each in the second half, but too many rushing yards allowed by the Packers’ defense did them in.
Thoughts about this performance:
Aaron Rodgers threw a pair of interceptions, but he also threw for some nice touchdown passes. Only two of his throws hit the ground. He left the game with an oblique injury in the second half and was replaced by Jordan Love.
Jalen Hurts showed why he is a legitimate MVP candidate. He threw for only 153 yards, but he didn’t have to throw it much because the running game was getting it done. He actually ran for more yards than he had passing yards as he ran for 157. Miles Sanders wasn’t far behind him with 143 rushing yards. Overall, the Eagles had 363 rushing yards and 500 total yards of offense. You won’t win too many games surrendering that many yards. It’s amazing the Packers were anywhere near striking distance in this game.
When Rodgers exited the game, Love took his place and made some very nice throws. One of them was a 63-yard catch and run by Christian Watson, who has 6 touchdowns in his last 3 games.
The defense was supposed to be the team’s strongest unit this season, but they have really disappointed. Granted, they wore down in some of these games because the offense couldn’t stay on the field, but they had very little excuse for their performance in this game. Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry and Head Coach Matt LaFleur have been together in previous seasons elsewhere, but it all comes down to results, and Barry might very well be coaching his final games for the Green Bay Packers.
What it all comes down to is the Packers fell short once again vs one of the top teams in the league. It will take a miracle finish for them to end up in the playoffs this year. They might as well start Jordan Love and see what he can bring to the table, especially with Rodgers and his nagging injuries.
They have 5 games left in the regular season. They travel to Chicago next Sunday to face the Bears at Noon Central Time before starting their bye week. Let’s see if they can keep their winning ways going vs their bitter rivals. Take care Packer fans!
