Packers look to avoid any Philly Special on Sunday night
The Packers are back in action after their “mini-bye” and travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles on Sunday Night Football.
The Packers are 4-7 after their 27-17 home loss to the Titans last Thursday night. The Eagles are 9-1, the best record in the NFL, after narrowly winning 17-16 at Indy last Sunday.
Jalen Hurts is a legitimate MVP candidate. He has plenty of weapons around him too with Miles Sanders at running back, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at receiver, and Dallas Goedert at tight end. Hurts can run too as he leads the team in rushing touchdowns with 8. There is no rest at all when that offense is on the field. They can score on any play. The defense needs to get off the field, something they didn’t do against Tennessee.
Aaron Rodgers has a broken thumb but is still playing with it. We will need the running game to be effective and to use it to our advantage. If we don’t, we are asking for trouble. Broken thumb or not, it’s asking a lot for Rodgers to make plays time and time again. If this offense can’t stay on the field, it might be a blowout.
The Packers have had recent success in Philly, winning their last 3 games there, including a playoff game. Before that, they haven’t won there since 1962, two stadiums ago. If you remember, they turned their season around in 2016 with a win at Philadelphia. They also won twice in the 2010-11 season, a season which ended very well for the Packers.
This is not an ideal matchup for Green Bay, not because the Eagles have the best record in the league, but because they are coming off two underwhelming performances. They lost on a Monday night at home vs Washington and trailed much of the way at Indianapolis last Sunday before pulling out a win. I have a feeling they are going to come out on a mission and be very tough to beat. The Packers will need to play excellent football in order to win this one.
The thumb has bothered Rodgers since the last snap of the Giants’ game in London. It’s probably not going to get any better, even with the bye week the Packers will have in a few weeks. Rodgers is going to keep playing for now. It remains to be seen if they soon turn to Jordan Love, especially if the Packers keep losing.
It’s going to be a tough one to win, but sometimes the Packers play better when they are counted out. They hung in there at Buffalo and actually beat the Cowboys in overtime. Maybe they will surprise us and actually keep it close and just maybe come away with a victory.
The odds are against them. Basically the only people who think the Packers have a chance are the players and coaches in the visiting locker room. Let’s surprise everyone this weekend and come away with a huge win!
