Packers are back in familiar territory at Lambeau to take on the Jets
The Packers return to Lambeau Field to play the New York Jets at Noon Central Time on Sunday, the first noon game of the season for the Pack.
The Packers are 3-2 after their 27-22 loss to the New York Giants in London. The Jets are also 3-2 but won last week, blowing out the Miami Dolphins 40-17 last Sunday.
Zach Wilson is only in his second year with the Jets, and they don’t have many household names, but they have found ways to get the job done. Breece Hall was their leading rusher and receiver last week vs Miami. Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson, and Elijah Moore are listed as the starting receivers, and any of them can have a big day if the Packers don’t tighten up on defense. The Packers need to pressure the quarterback and also get turnovers. They have only 1 interception in their first 5 games. They can do much better than that,
Aaron Rodgers did not have a good second half in London. Aaron Jones is capable of having a big game every time he steps out on the field, but the team needs to incorporate him into the offense more often. I don’t know what the issue is with Rodgers and the deep ball, whether he is off or the receivers are not on the same page, but those need to work more consistently because they are just wasted plays right now. The offense last week had perhaps their best first half to a game this season but didn’t score at all in the second half. That needs to change.
Robert Saleh is in his second season as head coach of the Jets. Rodgers has had some tough games in the past vs his teams. He was with the 49ers when the Packers got blown out twice in Santa Clara in the same season. The Packers need to start out well and more importantly, finish well.
As a team right now, the Packers don’t seem to be very intimidating right now, and why should they intimidate anyone? Their offense is inconsistent and their defense can’t find ways to stop anyone. Adding more to the drama are leaks of arguments and disagreements in the locker room. Is that overblown? Perhaps, but this does not seem like a cohesive unit right now. The way to change that is by winning.
It remains to be seen how good the Jets are, but they do have a winning record through 5 games, which is more than they accomplished in a while. The Packers cannot afford scoring droughts or allowing the Jets to go up and down the field, especially these long drives that keep Rodgers on the sidelines. They could very well lose this game if they don’t improve on their flaws.
I’m sure the team did a lot of work and spent a lot of time on the things they need to fix. We will see if that carries over onto the field and translates into a win on Sunday. I see a competitive game and the Jets are 2-0 on the road this year. Let’s change that too. I see the Packers rebounding and getting a win. Let’s get it done Green Bay!
