Packers look to make themselves at home in London
Both Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will finally play a game in London as they play “host” to the New York Giants on Sunday at 8:30 am Central Time.
The Packers are 3-1 after last Sunday’s 27-24 overtime win at home vs the New England Patriots. The Giants are also 3-1 after they defeated the Chicago Bears 20-12 at home last Sunday.
It’s a bad time to be a Jones if you are playing quarterback right now in the NFL. Mac Jones couldn’t go last week for New England and now Daniel Jones is injured for the Giants. He is supposedly improving, however. It’s good for them because backup Tyrod Taylor might be out with a concussion. If neither one can go, they will have to elevate Davis Webb from the practice squad and start him. No matter who starts at QB, the Packers have to slow down Saquon Barkley. That’s easier said than done. Keep Barkley under control and get after the quarterback, whoever it will be.
Rodgers keeps racking up the milestones, but he had far from a great game. Even he would admit it. They did have their running game going, and they need to pack it up and bring it to London. Their offense struggled at times vs New England, but they had some nice drives in the second half and one in overtime. It’s imperative that they stay away from multiple empty possessions in a row. They are asking for trouble if their offense can’t put some distance between them and the Giants on the scoreboard.
For the longest time, the Packers have not played in London, part of it because when they had a 16-game season, they didn’t want to give up a home game. Also, other teams didn’t want to give up their home game to the Packers because the fans travel well and they would miss out on a high turnstile count at their home stadium.
I know many of you aren’t happy about the Packers playing in London as the “home” team, which means instead of 9 regular-season games at Lambeau Field, we only have 8 this year. This is what the league chose for us and it is out of our control. Let’s make the most of it by winning this game and making it a moot point that this game is played in London instead of Green Bay.
Many of you were probably looking forward to this game for a while. Aaron Rodgers sure has, and I know many other players were as well. Let’s make it worth it by getting a victory over in Europe. If any of you will be attending the game personally, enjoy the game and your stay there too. For the rest of us, let’s cheer the team to victory from a distance. Let’s show the people in London how we play football in Green Bay!
