Packers look to continue their winning ways as they host the Patriots
The Packers play another Sunday late-afternoon game, this time at home vs the New England Patriots.
The Packers are 2-1 after their 14-12 road win vs Tampa Bay while the Patriots are 1-2 after losing 37-26 at home to the Baltimore Ravens. To make matters worse for NE, they lost QB Mac Jones late in the game to a high ankle sprain.
It didn’t look good for Mac Jones all week, even if they were taking it “day by day” as Bill Belichick said 12 times in his press conference. Veteran Brian Hoyer will get the start. The Packers saw him before in a home game vs the Bears on a Thursday night in 2016. Unfortunately, he suffered a broken arm in the game. Anyway, the offense is nothing to write home about. Let’s keep it that way.
Aaron Rodgers and the receivers seem to be getting into more of a groove each week. Let’s continue to build on that and have a breakout game on offense. They’ve been running the ball effectively the last two games. Hopefully that continues.
Usually the last person you want to see on the field on offense is your punter, but Pat O’Donnell has done a great job kicking the ball deep and flipping the field for the defense. Speaking of the defense, they seem to be getting better every game. We need that trend to continue.
The Patriots no longer resemble the team that won six Super Bowls. They can still be competitive at times, especially as long as Belichick is running the show, but this team is not very good. Still, they have a head coach who seems to find ways to attack other teams’ weak spots, whether he plays by the rules in getting that information or not.
A game between the Packers and Patriots used to be a big deal, and it still is going to be televised in the late afternoon. Even though it might have lost a bit of its luster, the Patriots still have Belichick, and other teams aren’t going to have any sympathy for his team struggling. On the contrary, many see this as payback for his cheating ways and running up the score on opponents. I’m sure a lot of fans around the league were happy to see his team get crushed by the Buffalo Bills in the opening round of the playoffs last season.
It’s not Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady this time and it definitely isn’t Super Bowl XXXI or anything close to that, but you can never sleep on any team. That being said, there is no excuse for the Packers to lose this game no matter who was going to get the start at quarterback for NE. Let’s jump ahead of them early and keep the offense going all game. Let’s see the defense be a disruptive force all game as well.
Whether you are going to the game or just gathering at the bar or even at home, let’s be ready to cheer our team to victory this Sunday!
