Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are back in Green Bay
It’s official! Aaron Rodgers is going to be part of the 2022-23 Green Bay Packers and likely beyond this upcoming season.
The original news is that his contract is for 4 years and $200 million, but the accuracy of the details of the contract is disputed. Either way, Rodgers is coming back and there is now a likelihood that he will be a Packer for his whole NFL career.
All of us have our opinions on this whole matter. In this day of social media and around-the-clock news, it’s hard to know what to believe. What I do believe is there was a bit of a power struggle and maybe a bit of animosity between Rodgers and the front office. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, but it created a rift between a lot of people, even among us Packer fans.
I don’t know what caused Rodgers to ultimately choose to come back to Green Bay. Perhaps he knew this was the best scenario he had to get another Super Bowl victory. Going to Denver meant he would have to face Kansas City twice, and the Raiders and Chargers are no picnic either. Maybe he was loyal to Green Bay all along and just wanted a certain amount of respect he felt he wasn’t getting. I don’t know how serious he was about leaving Green Bay. I think he just wanted the front office to not take him for granted. He has said numerous times he enjoys playing in Green Bay. He enjoys the teammates, the fans, the whole environment. He just wanted the front office to appreciate what they have in him.
Some of us have our crazy theories and here is mine. I think that perhaps he was on the fence about whether or not he wanted to return, but during these last few weeks, it was announced that the Packers would play in London this upcoming season. Rodgers said in the past that he wanted to play in London before he retired, and now he has his chance. Did that push him over the top? Probably not, but when I found out that piece of information, I personally felt better about his chances of returning.
Okay, so now Rodgers is back. What does that mean for the team moving forward? They also put the franchise tag on Davante Adams. Whether or not he is excited about that remains to be seen. We know they make quite a QB-WR duo. The one thing I would like to see is that duo playing in the Super Bowl together and helping the team to a championship.
With Rodgers back, they now need to get creative with the salary cap. Za’Darius Smith might be let go as well as Rasul Douglas. If you ask me, they should re-sign Douglas and let Kevin King walk, but I don’t make these decisions. What will they do with Allen Lazard? Unless they can get someone like Amari Cooper, I say we bring back Lazard. Hopefully Robert Tonyan will be back. It is unfortunate he suffered that terrible injury. Is this also the end of Jordan Love in Green Bay? What can we get for him if we decide to trade him? Maybe we can get another receiver in exchange for him.
One thing is certain. When you have Rodgers on your team, you have a chance. We have had him win the MVP and lead the Packers to the #1 seed these last two seasons. Both of these seasons ended up with them falling short of even making the Super Bowl, let alone winning it all. This last season was one of the most disappointing and that’s saying a lot. We want another Vince Lombardi Trophy. We enjoy the fact that you still own the Bears. We enjoy that you win more often than not in the regular season. What we really want is to hold that trophy at the end of the season. We call ourselves Titletown. That comes with expectations.
I don’t know what anyone else thinks, but I am glad that Rodgers is back. Is he a diva? A prima donna? Perhaps, but I believe he gives us the best chance to win a championship next season. I am a Wisconsin guy and I enjoy when I see my teams win championships. I celebrated into the night when my beloved Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA Championship last season. I was fortunate to witness the Packers win Super Bowls XXXI and XLV. I don’t care much if Rodgers is a “nice guy” or a “drama queen” like some talking heads in the media like to say. I just care if he can deliver the Packers another trophy. That’s all I really care about.
The bottom line. I believe Rodgers gives us our best chance to win. This news is great news. I believe he will have another great season and will be in great position to deliver us a Super Bowl Championship. Let’s buckle up and enjoy the ride. It is a great time to be a Packer fan. Our quarterback is back. I say we get behind him as we ride with him to a great regular season and beyond. We are just getting started! Let’s dominate from the start and never look back!
Go Pack Go!
