Packers look to clinch a 10-win season with a win over the Bears
The Packers are back on the field and will reach double digits in wins with a home win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.
The Packers are 9-3 and coming off their bye week. Their last game was a 36-28 home win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Chicago Bears are 4-8 after their 33-22 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday.
Justin Fields returns for the Bears and will make his first career start at Lambeau Field. His top running back David Montgomery and veteran receiver Allen Robinson II are both coming off injuries and are questionable for this game. The Packers want to keep an eye on TE Cole Kmet, who has been a reliable target in the passing game. The Packers need to limit Fields’ scrambling ability and bring him to the ground. He is still prone to many sacks and turnovers. The Packers could use plenty of both.
Aaron Rodgers had a chance to rest his broken toe over the bye week. We will see if the offense can continue their hot streak they showed prior to their week off. It’s possible that David Bakhtiari will be back and that they ease him into the lineup.
Hopefully the special teams got plenty of work done during the last few weeks, especially getting their timing down with the kicking game. They still trust Mason Crosby and he will need to be at his best moving forward.
There is plenty of speculation that Matt Nagy is finished in Chicago and the question is not if but when he will be fired. This might be the last time the Packers face the Bears with Nagy on the sidelines.
The Bears will obviously have some motivation as Rodgers made his famous remark to the fans in Chicago that he still owns them. They may not be saying much publicly, but at some point, pride has to set in. Whether they have the talent to actually do much about it is another matter.
The Packers have won 5 straight and 10 of the last 11 vs the Bears, home or away. The only way the Bears can do anything about it is to change the narrative. No matter what they have tried over the years, it rarely seems to work.
The Bears’ dwindling playoff hopes and perhaps many jobs may be on the line for them this Sunday. For the Packers, they have much different goals, and a win would help put them on the right path to get the top seed in the NFC. While the Bears are obsessed with beating the Packers, Green Bay is looking to win a Super Bowl.
Sunday night games are always a reason to party, especially at home, and especially at home vs your most bitter rival. Let’s have another memorable win and let’s be ready to cheer the team to victory no matter where we are. Have a great weekend and stay warm!
