Packers get back into the win column by shutting out Seattle
The Packers improved to 8-2 after posting their first shutout in three seasons, a 17-0 home victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Packers drove down the field but ended with a missed field goal. After both teams combined for five straight punts, the Packers finally got on the board with a field goal. The score remained 3-0 until the fourth quarter when A.J. Dillon scored a pair of rushing touchdowns. The Packers stepped up on defense, even intercepting Russell Wilson twice in the endzone.
Thoughts about this win:
Aaron Rodgers made some nice throws but looked a bit rusty after coming off the COVID-19 list. He even threw an interception into the endzone that was uncharacteristic of how he usually plays.
Russell Wilson was no better. Seattle suffered their first shutout loss since 2011 when they lost 24-0 at Pittsburgh, which was one season before Russell Wilson was drafted. The Packers posted their first shutout win since winning 22-0 at home vs Buffalo in 2018.
The defense played well once again. Kevin King and Adrian Amos recorded interceptions in the endzone. They built on their promising showing last week at Kansas City, but they have a win to show for it this time.
The downside of this win is that players suffered injuries. Aaron Jones suffered a knee injury and the team fears it might be a torn MCL, which would keep him on the sidelines for a bit. Rashan Gary had an elbow injury, which doesn’t appear to be serious, but it’s possible he might miss a game or two. Whitney Mercilus injured his biceps in the third quarter.
The Packers had 393 yards of offense overall but just 17 points to show for it. Rodgers came off the COVID-19 list on Saturday, so he didn’t have a full week of practice with his receivers. It appears that they faced Seattle at the right time as their own quarterback returned to the lineup after missing a lot of time with an injured middle finger.
The Packers are in a great position right now. The Bucs, Cardinals, and Saints all lost. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but at least they can do it after a win.
It’s hard to shut out a team, especially in today’s NFL. The defense appears to be the strongest part of this team right now. When was the last time you heard that? The Packers get ready to hit the road once again as they play the Vikings in Minnesota next Sunday. For now, let’s enjoy this win Packer fans! Have a great week!
