Chiefs scrape by Packers with Jordan Love as Quarterback
The Packers’ 7-game winning streak is now over after they fell 13-7 on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs in Sunday’s late-afternoon matchup.
Kansas City scored on their first possession for a 7-0 lead. They added two field goals before halftime. The Packers were miserable on special teams but pulled to within 13-7 late in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Allen Lazard. They couldn’t get off the field on defense though, and Kansas City ran off the clock.
Thoughts about the game:
Jordan Love got his feet wet. He didn’t do anything to knock our socks off, but he did have a few promising drives in the second half. One resulted in an interception and the other resulted in a touchdown.
The defense came to play. Other than the game against the Titans, where Pat Mahomes was knocked out of the game, the Packers held the Chiefs to their lowest point total of the season.
The special teams need a lot of work. Mason Crosby missed a field goal and got another blocked. A punt bounced off the leg of Malik Taylor and Amari Rodgers muffed a punt and almost lost it.
The defense played well but Kevin King needs to come down with that interception right before halftime. The Chiefs got a field goal out of it.
It’s a tough loss and there is no such thing as a good loss, but it’s to an AFC team, which doesn’t hurt quite as much when tiebreakers are considered. The Cowboys, Saints, Vikings, and Rams all lost too. We are still in great shape.
We shall see what the status is with Aaron Rodgers next week when the Packers host the Seattle Seahawks. If it’s Love, they have a week to plan for him to take the reigns once again. Rodgers is scheduled to come off the COVID-19 list on Saturday, so we will have to wait all week to see who will start.
We will see how bad the injuries are to Eric Stokes and Kenny Clark. David Bakhtiari should return any week now, so help is on the way. Keep your heads up Packer fans. We are still in good shape. Let’s have a great week of practice and get ready for Seattle. We got this!
