Packers look to play spoiler in the 49ers’ home opener
For the second straight week, the Packers play in prime time as they get ready for a trip to Santa Clara to play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.
The Packers are 1-1 after their 35-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Monday night. Meanwhile, the 49ers are 2-0 after posting road victories over the Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jimmy Garoppolo is still the quarterback for the 49ers, although Trey Lance might take the job sooner or later. Elijah Mitchell is the running back and they also have a capable receiving corps in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, although the latter has caught only one pass all season so far. George Kittle is the tight end and Packer fans know about him. This will be a nice measuring stick for how good this defense really is. We need pressure on the quarterback. Force some turnovers as well, something they haven’t done in their losses to the 49ers recently.
Aaron Rodgers bounced back nicely after that disaster of a performance in the opening game. We need him to be more like the player he was on Monday night. We need these receivers to get separation and for Aaron Jones to provide a running threat. Let’s move the chains and give the defense a break. It is very important to finish drives with touchdowns, especially in a game like this one.
Field position will probably be a big factor in this game. Keep booming those punts and kick the ball deep. Hopefully the Packers will have plenty of kickoffs in this game.
Both teams have had periods of glory. The 49ers have five Super Bowl wins to boast about. The Packers have matched that championship total in the 1960s alone, winning five titles in seven years during that period. The Packers have won two Super Bowls since the 49ers last won one, and after going 5-0 in their first five Super Bowl appearances, the 49ers have lost their last two, both late in the game and in heartbreaking fashion, not that there is a good way to lose a Super Bowl.
This is the first home game of the season for the 49ers, so you know that both the crowd and the team will be fired up and ready to play. The Packers need to get off to a good start in this game. They didn’t get off to good starts in either of their first two games, but they did manage to find a way to answer back in the second game. If they aren’t careful, it could easily resemble what they experienced in the first game. Keep your poise and keep your heads in the game.
I’m sure not many in the national media will give the Packers much of a chance to win this game. The odds are against them on Sunday night. Let’s use that as motivation to go out there and dominate.
This will likely not be an easy game for the Packers to win, but they are more than capable of doing it. Stay disciplined, stay focused, and take it one snap at a time. You can do this. Wherever you are Packer fans, let’s get behind our team and cheer them to victory this Sunday night. Let’s make this night our night.
Go Pack Go!
