Packers turn back Titans at snowy Lambeau Field
The Packers defeated the Tennessee Titans 40-14 at snowy Lambeau Field on Sunday night.
In a game that featured a lot of hype coming into it, the Packers jumped out to a 19-0 lead before the Titans answered with 14 straight points of their own. The Packers once again seized control of the game, scoring the rest of the points as they improved to 12-3 on the season.
Some thoughts about this win:
Much of the talk before this game was about Derrick Henry and if the Packers can find a way to slow him down. He did rush for 98 yards, but his longest run was for only 10 yards. It also helped that the Packers jumped out to an early lead and then scored a lot of points later in the game.
The Packers continue to set milestones. Aaron Rodgers hit 4,000 passing yards for the season, Aaron Jones hit 1,000 rushing yards, and Davante Adams surpassed 100 receptions for the year. Adams had a monster game again with 11 receptions for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Equanimeous St. Brown scored a touchdown for the first time in his career and A.J. Dillon had a great rushing performance, rushing for 124 yards on 21 carries and finding the endzone twice.
Mason Crosby appeared to have a blocked field goal and a huge runback for Tennessee, but the Titans were called for offsides. It was debatable whether anyone actually was offsides, but they got a sack of Rodgers on fourth down to take over anyway.
Aaron Jones had a huge 59-yard run in the third quarter, but he obviously stepped out of bounds. Had Tennessee challenged the call in time, they would have won it. The Packers scored a touchdown on the drive and started to put some distance between them and Tennessee.
J.K. Scott didn’t even have to punt in this game. The Packers either scored, had the half run out, or turned it over. They turned it over on downs when Rodgers was sacked and Rodgers threw a rare interception in the fourth quarter, one of the few blemishes for the offense all night.
How were the Packers able to slow the Titans’ offense down? They played some good defense in the game. They got pressure and didn’t allow Derrick Henry to go off. Perhaps they heard the noise all week about how they will get run over in this game. The Packers actually had a powerful ground game, rushing for 234 yards.
It was a fun game to watch in the snow and a great win by the Packers. Despite the win, they haven’t clinched the top seed yet. If they win next week at Soldier Field vs the Chicago Bears and/or if Seattle loses on the road to the 49ers next week, the Packers clinch the #1 seed.
The Packers can’t expect an easy game next week. They dominated the Bears at Lambeau Field and I know they want redemption. The Bears are fighting for a playoff spot as well, plus they have a chance to deny GB the top seed. The Packers had better be ready to play.
For now, the Packers got a nice win vs a tough, physical opponent. Enjoy the week Packer fans and be safe while celebrating the end of 2020 and the arrival of 2021.
