Packers host the Titans in a battle of high-powered offenses
The Packers take on the Tennessee Titans in a battle of division leaders on Sunday night at Lambeau Field.
The Packers are 11-3 after defeating the Carolina Panthers 24-16 while the Titans are 10-4 after their 46-25 home victory over the Detroit Lions.
QB Ryan Tannehill is quietly having a very good season throwing the football with 31 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions on the year. It helps that he has an excellent running back to hand the ball off to in Derrick Henry, who is likely going to end up as the leading rusher in the NFL. The receivers aren’t too bad either in Corey Davis and A.J. Brown, and they have a tight end in Jonnu Smith who has 7 receiving touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Derrick Henry is the star of this offense though. It will be quite a task for the Packers to contain him. They need to slow him down and get him to the ground.
Aaron Rodgers is coming off a performance in which he threw his 40th TD pass of the season but also was unable to connect downfield. I expect a much different result in this game. Aaron Jones had an excellent rushing performance vs Carolina. We need an efficient offense in this game. We cannot afford to get only a field goal in the second half and expect to win vs Tennessee.
Several Packers can get milestones in this game. Aaron Rodgers needs 172 passing yards to reach 4,000 for the season, Aaron Jones is 32 rushing yards away from 1,000, and Davante Adams is 2 receptions away from 100.
It’s possible that the Packers could clinch the #1 seed in the NFC this weekend. If they defeat Tennessee and the Seattle Seahawks lose at home to the Los Angeles Rams, the Packers secure the top seed. Regardless of how the Packers do vs Tennessee, if they get a win at Soldier Field vs the Chicago Bears in their next game, they clinch the top seed as well.
As far as the standings go, the Packers can afford to lose this game as long as they win vs the Bears. This is a big test for them though. It will be quite a task to slow down this offense, especially Derrick Henry. This is a good measuring stick to see how ready they are to make a deep playoff run.
Both teams made it to their respective conference championship games last season. The Titans got there with some great defensive performances with wins at New England and Baltimore. They jumped out to a lead at Kansas City but were unable to keep up with the Chiefs and their powerful offense.
It will be tough for the Packers to keep this offense in check but the same thing can be said of the Titans. They have to go against Aaron Rodgers and this offense. It should be quite a game on Sunday night. Let’s keep the winning streak going and head into the following week with some huge momentum. Let’s get it done on Sunday night Green Bay!
Go Pack Go!
