Packers get their 100th victory vs the Bears in the series
The Packers got their 100th win in the series vs the Bears with a 41-25 win at Lambeau Field on Sunday Night Football.
The Packers got the ball first and drove down the field as Aaron Rodgers found Davante Adams in the endzone, Adams’ 500th career reception. The extra point was missed and GB led 6-0. The Bears drove down the field with David Montgomery getting loose for a 57-yard run to the GB 8. The defense tightened and a field goal made it 6-3. The Packers drove down for another touchdown and another one after that. They led 41-10 at one point before Mitchell Trubisky led the Bears on a few touchdown drives to make the final score look somewhat respectable.
My thoughts about this game:
It was a night of milestones. I already mentioned win 100, making the record 100-95-6 in favor of Green Bay, and the 500th career reception for Davante Adams. Rodgers hit Robert Tonyan for a 39-yard TD in the third quarter, putting Rodgers over 50,000 career passing yards. It was another 4-TD pass night for Rodgers. The two others catching TD passes were Marcedes Lewis and Allen Lazard. Jamaal Williams added a touchdown on the ground.
Preston Smith had a good game with a sack and a fumble recovery for a touchdown after a sack by Za’Darius Smith. We will need contributions from Preston Smith moving forward. His touchdown happened in the second quarter and made the score 27-3, essentially putting the game out of reach before halftime.
Darnell Savage is another player on defense who had a good game, intercepting Trubisky twice, once in the endzone and the other in the third quarter. Both interceptions led to Green Bay touchdowns. Add the fumble recovery by Preston Smith and the Packers scored 21 points off those three Chicago turnovers.
It was obvious the Packers were the better team coming into this game. The question was whether they would play like it. We didn’t need to worry. The Packers had their offense going and their defense came up with some big plays and takeaways. It was a great night to be a Packer fan or part of the Packers’ organization.
Wins against the Bears are always sweet. Other than winning the Super Bowl, there is nothing better than the Packers defeating their bitter rivals, no matter how it’s done. What a stretch of dominance it has been. It started in 1992 and continues to this day. That’s almost 30 years. I want it to keep on going.
So where does that leave the Packers and where do we go from here? The Packers are 8-3 and have 5 games left in the regular season. They just need to keep it up next week and beyond. It’s time for them to play their best football going forward. They also have a home game next week as the Philadelphia Eagles come into Lambeau Field for a 3:25 (Central Time) start. Let’s dominate next week as well and keep it going from there. Enjoy the win Packer fans! Have a great week!
