Packers kicked by Colts in painful loss
What a tough way to lose! The Packers fell to 7-3 after a 34-31 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
The Packers moved the ball nicely and played some decent defense at times in the first half as they exited the field with a 28-14 lead, but they fell apart on both offense and defense until their final drive of regulation and tied the game at 31-31. They got the ball to start overtime but Marquez Valdes-Scantling fumbled the ball to give the Colts the ball in field-goal range. They ended up winning the game on that turnover.
The Packers played well in the first half, but it seems like the Colts were much better on making adjustments. The Packers were awful on defense in the second half. Their offense wasn’t much better. They twice faced only a yard to go and threw the ball both times, failing both times. The offense lost this game as well.
Special teams were bad once again. Darrius Shepherd lost a fumble when the game was tied 28-28. In fact, the Packers turned the ball over four times in this game. The most costly one was the fumble by MVS in overtime. He briefly saved the game by converting a long pass to help force overtime when the Packers were backed up near their own endzone. Reputations can be won or lost in a heartbeat.
It’s a frustrating loss. The Packers were once again the top seed in the NFC. With this loss, they fell to #3. All teams have their flaws but the Packers could have had a signature victory and really made a statement had they won this game. It’s not panic time by any means but they need to clean a lot of things up if they are going to make a serious run in the playoffs.
There are a few silver linings if you are looking for any. The Vikings lost in an upset at home to the Cowboys, putting a blow to their playoff hopes a bit. The Sunday night game features the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. Remember the Bears could have had him but they drafted Mitchell Trubisky instead. It’s a small consolation but we need whatever we can to cheer ourselves up after this loss.
The Packers have to pick up the pieces moving forward. Next up is a Sunday night game vs the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. Maybe they can find success vs their feeble offense. It’s a rivalry game though so records don’t matter a lot in these types of situations. Let’s have a great week of practice and get ready for next week.
