Packers finally get a win on the West Coast as they defeat the 49ers 34-17
The Packers rebounded nicely from their loss on Sunday by defeating the San Francisco 49ers on the road 34-17 on Thursday night.
The Packers jumped out to a 7-0 lead. After the 49ers scored a field goal, the Packers answered with 27 straight points of their own before SF scored a few touchdowns late in the game.
Some thoughts about this victory:
Davante Adams continues to get it done as he caught 10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Marquez Valdes-Scantling only caught 2 passes but both went for touchdowns. Marcedes Lewis scored the other TD, giving Aaron Rodgers 4 more TD passes in a game.
The Packers’ offense is much more efficient when Aaron Jones is out there. Perhaps he would have sat out again had the Packers not lost Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon for this game. At least the players have some extra time to rest now that this Thursday game is finished.
I wouldn’t say their defense is fixed as they were playing against a depleted roster, and they still gave up some huge plays. Still, they only allowed 3 points total until late in the fourth quarter.
I also wouldn’t say the Packers made up for their two losses to SF last season either, although it is enjoyable to beat them no matter who is lining up for them on the field. A small bit of consolation is the Packers probably dealt a huge blow to the 49ers’ playoff hopes after losing to them in January. Even with the extra playoff team in each conference, a 4-5 record might be too much for them to overcome, especially with the key injuries they have.
Overall, it’s a nice win for GB. They still have much to work on, but it’s comforting not to have to stew over a loss for 10 days.
The Packers are now halfway through their season and have a 6-2 record. They just need to keep improving, especially on defense and also avoid injuries. If they can do that, they have a chance to make a deep playoff run. They now have a “mini-bye” before their next game, a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lambeau Field on the 15th. Let’s enjoy the win Packer fans! Enjoy the time off before the next game!
