Packers look to sweep the Vikings for the second straight year
The Packers look for a season sweep of the Minnesota Vikings when the two teams meet at Noon Central Time at Lambeau Field this coming Sunday.
The Packers are 5-1 after their 35-20 win at Houston while the Vikings are 1-5, coming off a bye week after losing 40-23 at home to the Atlanta Falcons, the only win of the season so far for the Dirty Birds.
Kirk Cousins has 11 touchdown passes on the year but has thrown for 10 interceptions. Dalvin Cook might be back after missing his last game with a groin injury. Adam Thielen is still a threat and has scored 7 of Cousins’ 11 TD passes, but Justin Jefferson is their leader in receiving yards and has caught 3 TD passes. That leaves TE Kyle Rudolph as the other player who caught a TD pass. This team has weapons and can get hot if they get in a groove. The Packers have done a decent job these last 3 meetings of limiting the damage and getting turnovers, especially against Cousins. Keep the pressure on Cousins and he will likely throw some passes that the Packers have a chance to get and turn the ball over to their offense.
Aaron Rodgers threw for another 4 TD passes last week. They will, unfortunately, have to go another week without Aaron Jones, but Jamaal Williams had some nice runs last week and will be ready to do it again on Sunday. Davante Adams keeps going but who will emerge this week for the Packers? Malik Taylor is the only other wide receiver to catch a pass last week. They do have Williams and a trio of tight ends capable of making plays. Whoever it is, make a play, and keep the chains moving.
The Packers were not very good on special teams last week. They had a punt blocked and allowed the Texans to recover an onside kick late in the game. Mason Crosby is dealing with a left calf and some back issues and did not practice on Wednesday. If he can’t go on Sunday, perhaps punter J.K. Scott will attempt field goals and extra points.
The Vikings are having a miserable year so far. Like I said, they are the only team to lose to the Falcons, but they did beat the Texans and were very close to beating the Seahawks in Seattle. A win over Green Bay would at least give them something to feel good about. The Packers need to be ready for this team.
The Packers are facing some injuries and they also have a game on Thursday night following the matchup with the Vikings. They need to remain focused and every single active player needs to be ready to enter the game at a moment’s notice. It will be a very busy week with two games in five days, but the only game that matters right now is the one on Sunday vs the Vikings. We will worry about the other one later.
Things have fallen into place for the Packers as far as the standings go, but they need to take advantage of this. Let’s be ready to dominate on Sunday. It’s unfortunate we can’t be at the game right now, but wherever you are, let your voices be heard, and let’s all cheer the Packers to victory this Sunday.
