Packers & Bears face off at Lambeau in the 200th overall meeting of rivalry
On Sunday, the 7-6 Chicago Bears will visit the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field to face the 10-3 division-leading Green Bay Packers in what will be the 200th overall meeting in their storied rivalry. The Packers currently hold a 98-95-6 edge in it. The Packers also hold a 9-2 record under Aaron Rodgers at Lambeau against Chicago since 2008, the most recent of those victories coming in week one of 2018, in which they came back from a 20-0 deficit late in the third quarter, winning it by a score of 24-23. Both teams have plenty to play for as Green Bay is looking to lock up a playoff spot with a win and a Los Angeles Rams loss on Sunday. The Bears, meanwhile, are looking to keep their slim postseason aspirations alive with what would be a massive upset win against Green Bay. They are coming off a close home victory against the Washington Redskins by a score of 20-15, while Chicago also is coming off of a victory against the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 31-24 at Soldier Field.
Obviously, this game and rivalry is huge on both sides for both teams. One is looking to build on their momentum heading into the postseason while the other is simply trying to stay alive in the postseason race. It feels like week 15 last season but with the roles being reversed. Last time, the Packers were hanging on by a thread in the postseason hunt, the Bears ended up knocking them out of it with a 24-17 victory in Chicago. This time, Green Bay is looking to knock the Bears out of it. As we’ve seen in the past though, upsets can and do happen. Week 12 in 2015, which was also Brett Favre’s number retirement at Lambeau, saw the Bears beat the Packers 17-13 on SNF on November 26th, 2015.
This game has intriguing implications; as a win for Chicago would not only keep them in the hunt for the postseason but would also give Minnesota room to catch Green Bay in the divisional standings ahead of their week 16 clash at US Bank Stadium on Monday Night Football on December 23rd. As of this article, the Vikings are one game behind Green Bay at 9-4. I see this rivalry game between Chicago and Green Bay as close in the first half, 17-14 or something of the sort, then Green Bay turns it on in the second half, winning by a score of 31-17. Packers-Bears is definitely the best rivalry in the NFL, this upcoming game will become yet another great chapter within it.
