Packers pull away late to secure victory over the Giants
The Green Bay Packers improved to 9-3, clinching a winning season after their 31-13 victory over the New York Giants at snowy MetLife Stadium.
The Packers scored on their first 3 possessions of the game and took a 17-7 lead. The Giants didn’t go away easily though as they tied the game 7-7 and kicked a field goal late in the first half to pull to within 17-10, which was the halftime score. A field goal by the Giants was the only scoring in the third quarter, which ended 17-13 GB, but the Packers were threatening when the third quarter ended and scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth to take a 31-13 lead and kept the Giants off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
After a miserable offensive and defensive night last Sunday, the Packers were much more efficient on offense this time around. Aaron Rodgers threw for 4 touchdowns, 2 going to Davante Adams and 1 each to Allen Lazard and Marcedes Lewis. The defense gave up chunks of yards at times but did come up with 3 interceptions.
You can say what you want about the game but the Packers got the victory, which they really needed after that dreadful performance last Sunday night vs the 49ers on the West Coast. They played a whole lot better on the East Coast and snowy weather is football weather.
Could the Packers have played better? Of course! They managed to play well enough to win the game and that is a lot better than what some other teams can say. The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Miami Dolphins, who had only 2 wins entering the game. The New York Jets lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, handing them their first win of the season. The Carolina Panthers lost at home to the Washington Redskins, another team with only 2 wins. Some teams are not very good but it doesn’t mean they aren’t trying. The Giants gave a spirited effort. The Packers pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
At 9-3, the Packers ensured themselves of more wins than losses this season, something they haven’t done the two previous seasons. No matter what happens between the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, the Packers will remain in first place for at least another week. Still, let’s see the Seahawks win and put some distance between the Packers and the Vikings. Next up for the Packers is a home game with the Washington Redskins next Sunday. Enjoy the win and stay warm Packer fans!
