Packers look to topple the Giants on the East Coast
The 8-3 Green Bay Packers head east on Sunday to take on the 2-9 New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Packers are coming off of 31 point loss to the now 10-1 and NFC leading San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara. Green Bay got absolutely throttled in all phases as San Francisco just steamrolled over them. The Giants are also coming off of a loss to the Chicago Bears by a score of 19-14. RB Saquon Barkley has rushed for a combined 88 yards on 44 carries in the past three games, good for 0.5 YPC. Let’s hope this game isn’t his breakout game.
On the offensive side for Green Bay, QB Aaron Rodgers is also looking to get into a groove in December as he was held to a season-low in passing yards (104), on 33 total attempts, good for just 3.2 YPA, last Sunday night. The Giants’ secondary will be without a few of its key pieces as safety Jabril Peppers, as well as TEs Evan Ingram & Rhett Ellison as well as WR Golden Tate, all will be out of action, per NFL insider Field Yates. For a defense that ranks 31st in pass yards allowed (252.4 YPG); this could be a game where Aaron Rodgers shines in the passing game for Green Bay. RB Aaron Jones also needs to start getting more of a featured role within the offense. Since Adams has been back, he’s been virtually invisible within the offense. It’s time he starts getting more involved as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. He was an amazing weapon for Green Bay when Adams was out.
Defensively, both Preston and Za’Darius Smith have been absolute animals on the edge for Green Bay. They are the only defensive duo with at least ten sacks each between them this season. I have a feeling they’ll be getting to QB Daniel Jones quite during the game. New York’s offensive line is tenth in sacks allowed (35), and QB hits (89). This could be the time where both the offense and defense for the Packers end up having a complete and balanced game.
Overall, this game looks as lopsided as ever on paper but as we saw a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, don’t ever take a team lightly — regardless of injuries or overall record. I don’t see this game as being another blow out though. I see this as a game where Green Bay gets itself back on track both offensively and defensively. I see Green Bay winning it by a final score of 52-14. Green Bay’s final five-week stretch includes four teams with .500 records or below (@ Giants, vs Redskins, vs Bears, and @ Lions), now is the time to take advantage and finish strong heading into the postseason.
