Green Bay looks to maintain momentum against Raiders
The 5-1 Packers will be taking on the 3-2 Raiders Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field. Both teams are coming off of close wins (Green Bay against Detroit 23-22 & Oakland against Chicago 24-21). The Packers will be down at least one pass-catcher as Davante Adams has been ruled out for the week 7 game with turf toe. Geronimo Allison (concussion) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (high ankle sprain) are both questionable for the game; they also both did not practice on Saturday, per Packers beat writer Rob Demovsky. The Packers recently signed WR Ryan Grant (no, not that Ryan Grant), from the Oakland Raiders on Thursday. This was likely due to the lack of depth at the position with injuries to top guys. In 4 games with the Raiders, Grant compiled 4 receptions for 14 yards. Overall, he’s had 123 receptions for over 1300 yards (1333), and 7 touchdowns, good for a 10.8 YP/R average.
On the defensive side, Green Bay will be without safety Darnell Savage as he has been battling a high ankle sprain as of late. They’ll also could be down their top CB, as Tramon Williams was a limited participant in Friday’s practice. He’s dealing with a knee injury. DL Kenny Clark is listed as doubtful with a back injury, and CB Tony Brown is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
Once again, it seems as though the injury bug has caught up to Green Bay. It always seems to happen at the most inopportune times as well. Let’s hope they can overcome them and come out with a win. Aaron Rodgers knows how it feels to have your backs against the wall. In mid-season 2016, Green Bay was decimated by injury and was hanging on by a thread in the win-loss column. Green Bay then reeled off 8 straight wins en-route to an NFC championship berth. If anyone can overcome the deficiencies of their team, it’s the man under center.
If Green Bay does end up winning, he will become the first rookie HC in Packers history to win six of their first seven games. As a team, Green Bay has exceeded expectations thus far, hopefully, they continue to gain momentum with a win on Sunday against Oakland. That will extend their division lead even further and certainly will put the league on notice with only one loss in the first six games; don’t play not to lose and don’t overlook the opposing team. It’s the NFL, anything can happen on any given game day.
