Green Bay looks to finally reverse their misfortune against Detroit Monday night
4-1 Green Bay is hosting 2-1-1 Detroit on Monday Night Football on ESPN at Lambeau Field. The Packers; who last beat the Lions on January 1st of 2017, will look to finally reverse their misfortunes against them on Monday night. The Lions currently hold a 4-game win streak over them, dating back to November 6th of 2017. Something has to give.
Green Bay has been scorching hot as of late, winning 4 of their first 5 games. Detroit is coming off of a very close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Ford Field 34-30, while Green Bay defeated the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington 34-24. Detroit’s defense held Patrick Mahomes to 0 touchdown passes, although he still threw for over 300 yards (315 to be exact), he was held to under 60% completion percentage (57%) too. I think if Green Bay can mix in both the run and the pass, they’ll have a good chance at winning the game.
It will certainly be easier said than done though, as Detroit’s defense; more specifically its front 7 (Harrison, Hand, Robinson, Flowers, Okra, Strong, and Daniels), have been monsters on the defensive line for them. I’m hoping Green Bay’s O-line is near or at 100% heading into the game because if not, it could be a long night for Aaron Rodgers and company, especially with star WR Davante Adams out for another week. This will definitely be Green Bay’s toughest test to date, but there are definitely signs of optimism heading into it. Aaron Jones has finally found a rhythm within the run and pass game (catching out of the backfield), so I think if he has another big day on the ground and in the air, Green Bay could end up coming out on top. The defense for Green Bay has to remain energized and focused as well.
They forced three turnovers in last week’s game against Dallas, and they’ll need to force more once again this week if they expect to win. Getting pressure upfront (Za’Darius and Preston Smith), and rattling Stafford early will be a huge key to winning for them on Monday night. Your secondary is only as good as the pass rush allows, if Green Bay gets pressure on Stafford, they’ll more than likely force turnovers; which will be crucial in a defensive game like this. I have a feeling it will be a classic, close NFC North black and blue battle. Let’s hope Green Bay comes out on top, if they do, they’ll only further cement themselves as top contenders in the NFC.
