Packers look to keep the good times rolling as they face the Eagles
The Green Bay Packers will play at Lambeau Field for the third straight game, this time on Thursday night vs the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Packers are 3-0 after their 27-16 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday while the Philadelphia Eagles are 1-2, losing at home to the Detroit Lions 27-24 this past Sunday.
The Eagles have Carson Wentz, who has played at an MVP level in the past but was unable to finish the season in the last two years. Receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson can make plays anywhere on the field but it is unclear whether both will be able to play on Thursday. It will be up to the defense to keep the pressure on Wentz and make him throw it before he wants to. The Packers have done a good job of getting turnovers. Let’s see at least a few more on Thursday.
Aaron Rodgers and the offense are still finding their way, but they are making enough plays to win so far. Davante Adams has been productive but still has not scored a touchdown this year. I would like to see that change on Thursday night. The offense opens up in a huge way when Aaron Jones and the running game are effective. The Denver Broncos and their once-mighty defense did not record a sack or a turnover at Green Bay. The Eagles will likely need some of both in order to get an upset win.
Punter JK Scott continues his stellar play but the special teams gave up a long kickoff return vs Denver and Mason Crosby missed a field goal late in the game. There is plenty of room for improvement in that area. Speaking of Mason Crosby, his first career NFL game was at home vs the Eagles and he kicked a game-winner that day in 2007. That was back when Brett Favre was still the starting quarterback.
There is a Green Bay connection on the opposing sideline. Eagles’ Head Coach Doug Pederson was a backup to Favre and was on the Super Bowl XXXI roster. He has been a nice pickup. He did coach the team to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history after all.
The Eagles have not had too many things go their way this year so far. They lost to the Falcons on a Sunday night and played a sloppy game in a loss at home to the Lions. Their only win as at home vs the lowly Washington Redskins and they had to rally in order to win that game. The Packers have been playing well so far but they cannot overlook this team. The Eagles are looking for something to turn their fortunes around and a win in Green Bay could be just the thing they need. That is why the Packers need to come out and take care of business.
I am not a huge fan of Thursday Night Football, but the good thing is when you win, you have a little bit of extra time to enjoy the victory and rest up before getting ready for your next opponent. Let’s get this win and get some extra time to enjoy the victory before their next game.
