Let’s Take the Dirty Birds to the Cleaners this Sunday
The Packers begin the post-Mike McCarthy era with a home game against the Atlanta Falcons at Noon Central Time Sunday.
As we all know, McCarthy was fired after Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, dropping the Packers to 4-7-1. Meanwhile, the Falcons are 4-8 after a 26-16 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.
It will be interesting to see how Aaron Rodgers plays now that McCarthy is gone and Joe Philbin is the guy for now. Atlanta is one of the worst teams vs the run, so that should mean plenty of Aaron Jones. Of course, we thought that about Arizona, but we have a new head coach, so who knows? Atlanta also gives up a lot of passing yards, so hopefully this offense can get going for once.
It seems that every game they face both Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, the Packers have trouble stopping that tandem, even in games the Packers win. Every game is different, so perhaps they can take advantage of a team that is down right now. Of course, the Packers aren’t flying high themselves. Let’s get some turnovers for a change. They only had one interception in the last six games and six total so far this season. Take away the three by Ha Ha Clinton-Dix who is no longer with the team and that leaves them with three total and no player totaling more than one.
Perhaps the coaching change will bring some energy to this team. I really hope so because I am sick of the losing. If they come out on fire and dominate, that will leave many of us wondering where this team has been all year. More importantly, what if Aaron Rodgers has a monster game on Sunday? I just know that if he does, many fans will think that he was tanking in order to get McCarthy fired.
Either way, I do think the Packers will come out with a much better effort than they did vs Arizona. Joe Philbin has a very short window to show what he can do as the head coach, and many of the players have something to prove as well. A lot of them may not be with the team next year. This is their chance to show that they can still play and contribute something positive to the team.
Even if our season is heading for an early conclusion, at least we have a chance to stop the bleeding for one week and get back into the win column. If you are going to the game, be sure to dress warm and represent the fan base well. Let’s cheer hard for the Packers and get it done on the field this Sunday.
